Radar detector or Waze App?

Haven't used a radar detector in years but I have to tell you the Waze App is almost just like one. Anyone else use Waze? Tells you where Police are, construction traffic, you can message other Waze users to find out about stuff/traffic in front of you. Its all I use now for navigation. If you haven't tried it - do. I think you'll like it.

Yes, Waze is a fantasitc navigation app - just because of the alert system it has. While not foolproof (I mean *someone* has to be the first one to see the cop, so there is always a chance that first person could be you!), the "cop alert" feature really is pretty damn reliable. When I drive the PA turnpike from ~Harrisburg to Pittsburgh, it's amazing how accurate it is.

I do wish there was a way to view a route in "Itinerary" mode (to see all upcoming turns and turn distances), it is still my "go to" nav app now (via Android Auto - so it shows up on my 8.4" Uconnect screen).

It's hard to beat a Valentine One.
At least I find it most helpful to know if the signal is coming from ahead or behind.

So you really like the Valentine 1?? I have shopped around but still haven't brought myself to buying one yet. Between that and an Escort or Passport - is it worth it??

Are you sure the app doesn't do that?? If I understand you correctly I think it does. If you hit the top where it tells you what turn to take next - it will show you the entire route the way you mentioned.

Waze

Yeah I use waze. Radar detectors are illegal in the Peoples Commonwealth of Virginia. I still have the first radar detector I ever bought in 1983, Cobra, little square box I put on the sun visor. Every automatic door opener at a Kmart set it off

Waze reroute and early warning that traffic is backing up in front of you is SLOW, and you get stuck just past the exit ! But other than that waze is great, its kinda funny too.
I will go a different way just to throw it off, 'recalculating' .

I run through 'candy' once on waze in Richmond Virginia. Havn't seen anymore or know what to do with it. Wifee is getting good at reporting cops in the weeds quick in speed traps, like on I-77 in Hillsville VA. Northbound they always have someone . If they could lower the speedlimit there on 77, they would ! Its a trap you drift downhill and curve to the right, they wait in the medium in the weeds. Like a spider. I digress.
yeah I like waze ,its good on that big-a$$ screen in the challenger . Fun to use
Have a good one

2019, Maximum steel, Scat pack w/Shaker.
For my next trick, I will use my new Challenger to make this pile of money disappear.

Well, I shouldn't say that the app doesn't do it - but I'm pretty sure the Android Auto version of the app doesn't do it. Android Auto "dumbs down" a lot of apps and removes a lot of functionality in the name of "safety"...

Unless they recently added that functionality to the Android Auto version.

Do you use it via Android Auto or just directly on your phone screen?

With my previous cars a V1 was in one car, the one I used for longer road trips, all the time. Around town, for my work commute I didn't use a radar detector. I had a NAV unit (portable) in each car but I only really used navigation when I had to be someplace that was unfamiliar to me which was seldom.

In spite of all the raves about Waze I can't get my head around the fact it is a cell phone application and requires people interact with their cell phones while driving.

Thus to avoid a ticket one risks an accident due to distracted driving.

The V1 requires no real interaction. Just a quick glance at its display when it picks up radar (or laser) energy and provides an alert letting my know the band, the direction, strength, number of sources.

Have the opportunity to observe CHP traffic law enforcement officers on the job on the section of I-580 I travel to/from work. The times I have had a chance to park and observe the process from a distance, invariably after the citation is issued the officer drives an exit or two down the freeway then turns around and sets up shop on the freeway on the other direction and a mile or two *before* where he was previously. Drivers relying upon Waze can't know this until Waze gets updated. My V1 knows instantly.
