Redeye vs. 812 Superfast Ferrari

In the May 2019 issue of Motor Trend, a 2019 Hellcat Redeye and a 2018 Ferrari 812 Superfast (V-12) were taken to the drag strip. This, however, was an "apples-to-oranges" comparison. While both cars had, approximately, the same horsepower (797 hp.- Redeye and 787 hp.- Ferrari), the Ferrari weighed 676 lbs. less (3,845 lbs. to 4,521 lbs.) and costs $382,749 more ($474,489 to $91,740). That being said, here are the results:

0-60 mph.- 2.8 sec. Ferrari and 4.0 sec. Redeye
1/4 mile- 10.4 sec. @138.6 mph. vs. 11.8 sec. @128.0 mph. Redeye

Here is what Motor Trend had to say about the Redeye:

"The Dodge Challenger Redeye is an extreme taken to an extreme. Its as ridiculous as it is wonderful, as unnecessary as it is desirable. The thing is a you-have-got-to-be-kidding-me caricature of a muscle car. If I may be so bold as to recommend one change to the inmates running the Dodge asylum: 900 horsepower. Never let the bastards get you down!"

The article goes on speak about the future of performance cars. It said:

"We freaks are either living in or just about to enter the end times as far as internal combustion engines are concerned. The automobile world is going electric, and you can't stop progress...The upcoming electrification of the automobile is going to allow for comparable/greater power levels, at even lower price points. Can't wait!"

As an example of the potential of the electric car, a Chevrolet eCOPO (700 hp./317 lb./ft.) ran a blazing 9.837 quarter @134.07 mph. at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona.

Al Oppenheiser, GM's new head of engineering remarked, "We are transitioning our company into the next generation, a world of zero emissions, zero crashes, and zero congestion. The eCOPO is an example of what can be done to a traditionally internal combustion sport in a world of zero emissions."

Talk about 3 completely different cars.

There is no comparison to be made between the Ferrari and a Challenger....this comparison is just silly. It's not that far off the comparison of a Micro-waved snack vs. dinner and ****tails at a 5 star restaurant. Two things in wildly different leagues.

But the idea of eCOPO Camaro and the Red Eye .......now you're talking.

The Present vs. the Future.........is always a worth-while comparison.

My take away from that one and considering all we know about the current electric offerings you can buy today does suggest we are living through the last days of "muscle cars" as we've always known them.

Enjoy 'em while you got 'em......I agree with the writers .the future does look VERY DIFFERENT to me too.
