There's Always Someone Faster

This video is proof of the saying that "there's always someone faster." A Hellcat (that runs mid to low 10s) races a modified 5.0 supercharged Mustang (with 20 lbs. of boost) and the results were not good.

Yes......it's true......dollar for dollar and if you're willing to do the wrenching........it's pretty hard to beat the utility and potential in the 5.0 Coyote with a supercharger. The latest versions take the boost really well.

It's no small part of the popularity of using the 5.0 Mustang for Drag racing on a budget.

There are so many variables going into why one car is faster than another, you cannot go by hp/tq alone.

How much experience does the Driver have?
What tires/suspension are they running?
What is the total weight of the vehicle (including driver)?
Stock or Modified?
Automatic or Manual?
RWD or AWD?
Track or Street Racing?
Dig or Roll racing?

Line up 2 vehicles and change the variables above and you will get completely different outcomes.

There is always someone faster:

It's true that weight plays a major role in performance.

Just consider this. In the October 2018 issue of Motor Trend, 1/4 mile times were compared between a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk (707 hp.) and a Mercedes AMG GLC 63 S (503 hp.). Despite a 203 hp. disadvantage, the Mercedes produced an identical ET of 11.7 sec. @116 mph. How? The Jeep weighed almost a half of a ton more (945 lbs- 5,448 to 4,505 lbs.).

There is a 1/4 estimator on line that is fairly accurate. You can play around with weighs and horsepower to see the affect each has on ETs. For example, if you plug the numbers in for the Trailhawk and Mercedes, you get the following:

Trailhawk- 11.2 sec. @118.4 mph
Mercedes- 11.8 sec. @112.7 mph

Talking What's he running from?

No matter how fast he makes that car, he will never be able to outrun the truth - it is still a Mustang...

Do heterosexual men still drive those things? I thought that women and others had taken over the Mustang genre...

everybody and their mamas drives one. I understand their heritage and sentimental value cuz their daddy and their daddy's daddy might of drove one. It's fun to rag on the mainstream team and their terrible driving fans.
