Is your Hellcat sleepy?

Then wake it up!

Evidently all that is required to do that is a K&N drop-in air filter...

The K & N filter may increase the sound, but not add much, if any, to performance for a stock-tuned car. The existing Hellcat airbox is very efficient.

It sounds like you don’t put much stock in Hellcat Gary’s butt dyno...I can’t imagine why, I mean he has “Hellcat” right there in his user name, so he obviously knows how the cow eats the cabbage when it comes to Hellcats, right?!?

More importantly, if one those filters can “wake up” a Hellcat, what could it do for The Bacon Hauler I wonder...heck, I bet it could turn my rear-end into an LSD and fix that one TPMS sensor I got that keeps reporting the wrong PSI, I think I’m gonna put the grab on one!!

I would like to see a real dyno comparison, instead of a "butt dyno."

The video shows the Hellcat making 202 mph on the dyno. The top speed of a Hellcat with a stock intake is 203 mph. So, what did the K & N do?

Well I only skimmed the linked thread, but even then I could have sworn I saw some folks making outrageous claims along the same lines as Dillweed Gary from the Amazon review. Upon closer inspection, it would appear those that swore they got lots of extra oomph from the K&N mod were in fact talking about the whole CAI unit from K&N, whereas Numbnut Gary's review was only for the drop-in filter alone.

So I'm still thinking ole Grab-ass Gary was just peddling some of this stuff with his Amazon review:

I don't know, maybe I'm naive, but the instant I saw ole Grapefruit Gary's review on Amazon, I was immediately struck with how preposterous it is for him to think the Hellcat's engine is somehow leaving lots of performance on the table that can be reclaimed, and even more astoundingly, that hidden performance can be unlocked simply by using a different brand air filter.

It seems to me that the engineers at the Dodge house are smarter than to put out a top-ol-the-line car like that and leave all kinds of performance unrealized, yet leave it only an air filter away from being uncovered...

No, me thinks Gut-buster Gary was simply suffering from a bad case of confirmation bias when he decided to write up that review. He wanted his new air filter to make his already-insanely-fast car somehow ever faster...so much so, his mind told his butt to feel extra performance where there wasn't really extra.

What a shame too, it's not like the Hellcat's a slow car. I wonder what he's shooting for that he thought that air filter would get him...
