If you are looking for a power boost, long tubes and a tune will get you much more than shorties. But shorties alone can get you something, depending on what engine and exhaust setup you are starting with.

That's cool. I was just offering my perspective on shorties. I looked at both, thought I was going short because of emissions and cost. Ended up going long because I can pass with them and some money freed up.

While I was looking at shorts it seemed that 6.4 takeoffs are just as good as aftermarket for a small fraction of the cost. So if you are replacing stock manifolds on a 5.7, the 6.4 manifolds and cats will get a nice gain with no tune.

I went with Kooks long tubes and high flow cats, and a dyno tune. +47 rwhp, and the sound is awesome.

47! Impressive! I was only looking to clear 400hp. Have a Spectre CAI and Thrush 18" bullets, pretty tame, but I'm expecting some more hiway time this year,so didn't want to go too far over the top - wherever that is
