I like the look on my 2019 Challenger R/T. I left them on. A friend who also bought a new Challenger just gave me the pair he removed. I didn't know these were being E-Bayed.
Yeah, I don't get it either - *especially* people paying up to $100 for the stupid things!!! It's one thing to leave them on when you buy the car, but to actually go and pay for them, especially up to $100, is just crazy...
Personally, they would be the first thing I removed if they were on my car!
There is no "problem" - just crazy how something that is meant to protect something during shipping and is usually removed and thrown away before the car is sold has now become so "desired" by some that they are willing to pay up to $100 for them!
People aren't using them for protection though - they're using them for looks (at least according to the article). I highly doubt they would protect anything that caused enough force to chew up the air dam - they are only held on with a single christmas-tree type fastener and are meant to be very temporary, from what I've read. In fact, one of the biggest issues mentioned in the articles is that they *cause* damage - not protect you from it.
I'm curious how yours gets so chewed up - is your car lowered or something? Or does it just get messed up from extreme-angle driveways or something? Just curious (haven't had any issues with that yet).
Well there are people who still like to keep the thin plastic film on their phone screen (I am talking about the film that comes with the phone from the manufacturer not the aftermarket screen protectors). :dunno:
I know people who keep the plastic cover and paper floor mat, the dealer put on while they service the vehicle, for weeks.
Don't get me wrong - people are free to do whatever they want with their own cars - after all, it is theirs! I just think it's funny that people are paying so much for them. I bet some Dodge employees wish they kept all of them that were thrown away at the dealerships - apparently, they could have made a small fortune selling them to people on Ebay. Who would have guessed!?
Next thing, Dodge will be offering them as a $500 option. They'll remove the "To be removed by dealer" text printed on them and charge $500 - with an upcharge of $400 if you want them painted a "custom" color.
Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead with them on *my* car (especially in bright yellow!), but hey - to each their own, I guess!
Well some salesmen are telling people that they a warning so you don't hit your foot on the sharp edge. Heard it first hand. Personally I like the way they look on there. To each his own......just like the rear seat delete.
When i got my car from the dealer i told them to take off the guards. I can see why some may leave them on their cars for looks, protection ect. but in reality these have marked up my front lip pretty good just from them being taken out directly at the dealer from what i see. I have the plastic front lip not like the WB's so i can imagine the paint getting chipped up underneath as i seen in some photos online. Screw that!!! "To Be Removed By Dealer" stated right on the thing. LOL
If I got in a Ford Ranger with that film still on I would be afraid that I was taking part in a crash test.
I wonder if anyone has ever done a psychological study on this? Like I said you can basically group people by who prefer the plastic film on and who don't.
That's funny. I'm the type to pull that protective plastic stuff off of EVERYTHING as soon as I take it out of the box (whatever it is). I couldn't leave that stuff on anything.
I recently got my widebody and I did remove the one piece guard myself and kept it. I think I will be painting it and reinstalling it with some protection added where it rubs the paint. I went out to dinner last night and rubbed the splitter on the parking curb and would rather scrape up a plastic protector than my factory paint. I'm thinking satin black to go with my PCP car. It will go with the black mud guards I already added to protect the paint on the side of my car. I will be removing the lettering and sanding them so the paint actually sticks and not painting them on my driveway. What a Dumb AXX.
I saw a video on YouTube where a guy removed his after they were on for awhile and dirt had accumulated in the gap at the top and scratched up the paint on his splitter so I will probably just put some thin weatherstripping on mine before installing it even though I don't plan on driving it in bad weather, but who knows?
