Thumbs down New Seattle noise ordinance, ridiculous

Be aware that Seattle just passed a new noise ordinance that will technically make every stock Challenger illegal (as well as all cars really). If you live in or have to drive into Seattle city limits, be aware.

The Seattle Police Dept has been sharing on social media, "If we can hear your vehicle from 75ft away, you could be subject to a $136 fine".

Ah, Seattle. Trying their best to be the looniest town on the left cost. This from the same city who raised the minimum wage to $15.00 and can't understand why all the jobs went away, tried to tax the daylights out of Amazon (the only reason the town is still there), and banned plastic straws, resulting in Starbucks creating a sippy-lid that has more plastic than the old lid and straw combined. The combined brain power of whoever is running that poor city into the ground is just a little short of that of a banana slug.

If you ever get tired of Seattle, come to Pittsburgh. Where you're free to drink Iron City beer with a giant plastic straw, eat piles and piles of dead animal flesh heaped on a sandwich with french-fries and cole-slaw (Primanti Brother's) and root for a football team that's won 6 Superbowl. Oh yeah, we have a hockey team too....maybe you've heard of Sid Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Amazing that Seattle is so close to Canada, but lacks all their charm.

Keep those exhaust valves in good working condition lol. Have to keep those Prius drivers happy. Around here, most motorcycles put our cars to shame in terms of noise. I suspect they'll be the most nervous.

That will go for about 2 weeks. Then when the courts are backlogged with people fighting such an absurd rule, it will die off.

Amazon isn't the king of good corporate neighbors either, nor are they friendly to small businesses. Amazon, as the 600 lb gorilla can kill restaurants and other small businesses simply by owning (as it does) a bunch of real estate in a market and requiring its retail tenants to keep hours conducive to Amazon workers, even if few of those workers actually patronize the retailers.

Amazon-bashing is an official sport in Seattle. I think most of it is envy-based. Most of the workers come from out-of-state and are instantly richer than many of the locals, especially the hippy-dippy, Socialist crowd in the Fremont and Capitol Hill neighborhoods. Tech workers make easy targets, because they're not exactly longshoremen and are generally not interested in politics. Many are foreigners and are just thankful to have a good job and the opportunity to work at one of the most innovative companies in the world.

Amazon is great for the area and pumps a huge amount of dollars into the local economy that otherwise wouldn't be here. Some people will always be dissatisfied though and suspicious of any corporate entity. Not much that can be done there. They'll keep plucking the feathers from the goose that lays the golden eggs until they've driven it to greener pastures.

I do believe I'm on the Highway to Hell

If you have OEM, non-modified exhaust their city law can’t override federal law. The exhaust is legal as mandated under federal law, in all states. Cities and states can’t pass laws that are stricter than an existing federal law.

Hey, if you guys don't want Amazon there in Seattle, we'll take them here in Pittsburgh. The lame-brains in Allegheny County and Pittsburgh city government are doing a pretty good job of mucking up our chances for HQ2, but we're still in the running.

Go Steelers!

You would think that is true, but there are all kinds of city ordinances that override the Federal law called the Second Amendment to the Constitution. These cities also declare themselves "sanctuaries" and ignore Federal immigration laws. There's a lapse between the time the cities overstep their authority, and when the lawsuits make it far enough up the chain, during which time the local law, is the law, and the noise makers will be cited and fined.

Yeah, red tape and other snafus can create a garbled mess. I would have fun going to court if I got charged under that stupid ordinance. But that's only because I have a whole lot of court experience in traffic laws. The average car driving citizen would have a problem dealing with it in court. The thing is that, depending on the amount of fine and other factors, it may be a complete waste of time to go to court to contest it. May be better off to just pay it and forget it. The other thing is that most traffic cops wouldn't write the violation unless the exhaust "noise" was much louder than stock systems.

Personally, I'd contest it as hard as I could if my exhaust system was factory.
