I can't imagine someone from outside the South having to understand those folks with any regularity, it would be hell!!

So keep me in mind if you get into trouble conversing with the locals. If you run into one of them backwoods cedar hackers that has an accent so thick it's like syrup on a pancake, just give me a call and I'll translate for you on the spot!
My dad's family is from a small town in SE Georgia - those are some accents! Some of my relatives can really get drawly...and I mean draaaawwwllleee.

My brother and I inherited 4 rental houses in his hometown - I've talked to a couple of tenants on the phone. Its like marbles in the mouth + an accent. Oh lahwd...

Now some of the small towns or the old timers - I've overheard at car shows...it gets real "country" then. Some of the mechanics at Petty's Garage have a drawl - small town there (Level Cross, NC)

Oh @Hal H , I don't want to pressure you or anything, but I'm in a pickle and I need you hurry this along every chance you get so we can utilize that lift to get The Pork Wagon back on her feet. I was attempting to put some lipstick on her last night, and long story short, she's laid up in the garage with a bad leg.

And that No-Good-Nik, @A Guy , said he would take care of it while I caught some sleep, but when I went out there just now, it's still not fixed, and he's NO WHERE to be found!

And this could be the extreme fatigue and extreme rage talking, but I swear when I look at it now, the car looks even more broke than it was before @A Guy started on it!!

When do you think you'll have that lift ready for business, tomorrow??

I see...well, I suggest you put the hammer down on the way back @A Guy !

Drive fast, drive far, drive like you’ve never driven before Cause you got a lot of road to cover before you’re out of the state.

I dont know how many counties you’ll have to cross to get there, but I can guar-ant-dang-tee you it is a state-jail felony in EVERY single one of them if you get caught taking a man’s biscuits and gravy while you leave him behind to fix his busted car by himself!

And a word to the wise: if a state trooper nabs you before you get across the state line, your goose is cooked. No way around it.

Just try to absorb the blows from his billy club as best you can, he’ll stop once backup arrives...they’ll likely take over and continue the beating on you, but you can cross that bridge when you get to it (pun intended!).

Day 1 of framing

The framing crews work pretty fast the entire 2 story + roof (including sheathing, underlayment and shingles) is scheduled to be completed in 5 days.

There's already two homes ahead of mine that are completely framed and a third that's 2/3 of the way along.

Here's mine after day 1 of framing - you really get a sense of the spaces, now that there's defined walls where things will be:

I'm renting about about 6 miles away - as the crow flies, so I can drop by there readily either before / after work to check on progress.

Congratulations. Looks like you will have an awesome house.

I am very jealous of your garage (since mine was converted into a 4th bedroom ).

Don't tell me the '09 has to live outside under a car cover...

Or you have a separate building, perhaps?

One of the features I like is that I optioned for a 16' x 6' bump-out on the outside wall.

Here's a shot of the foundation - forgot to take a still shot of the framed garage of that (its on video)
-that's work bench, counter and cabinets that will go there along with tool storage. I have a rolling tool chest cart already.

That score line in the floor is where the wall would have been (to give an idea) where the bump-out starts and goes 6' further out.
That side of the garage will have the lift, since it will give more leeway to center the lift for easier entry / exit parking a car and have the legs (2) of the lift be placed where they need to be and not worry about clearance with a wall.

There will also be a utility sink in the garage (I've had this in my prior three homes) and its great to be able to clean up for working on the car or yard work and not enter the house with dirty hands etc or the pre-soak dirty work/ task clothes prior to washing them...

Sadly, yes. My garage space was needed for conversion to a bedroom for my daughter. I have been using high quality Covercraft car covers for the past 9 years. They keep my Challenger looking great, but restrict its use since it has to be cleaned every time after I use it.

More shots of garage space

I was over this morning (Sunday) to take some more stills - I had shot video, but not stills of the garage area. aka: the Car Cave

I also went into the house to the left of me to see what views that neighbor would have (shot the long view through the window on 2nd story). Only window that faces towards me is their 2nd story master bath which will face my kitchen nook, downstairs power room and laundry room upstairs - so a fair amount of privacy - plus I'm one of three homes are in a cul-de-sac, and we're all angled from one another. Closest corner of each house is 50' away from one another.

I'll have 12' of base cabinets / work bench area - have to allow room for side door to swing open, so I lose some of that 16' foot run. There'll be upper cabinets, but have leave an open space for the breaker panel that will be along on that wall.

The lift will be on the left side of garage, adjacent to the bump out - this will give leeway to position the lift's legs where they'll be best located at.
