2014-2018 Stage 1 PCM / 2017-2018 Demon Crate PCM recall

I'd not seen this posted here at least. The recall for the cruise control issue for Stage 1 and Demon PCMs

Quote:
Brand / Trade 1 : Mopar
Model : Stage 1 Kit Performance Package
Part No. : P5160023, P5160025
Size : 6” x 9”
Function : Engine Control
Descriptive Information : Some powertrain control modules (“PCMs”) available for 2014-2016 model year
Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, and Chrysler 300 vehicles with 5.7L engines
may not allow the driver to cancel cruise control when the CAN-C bus is fully
disabled.
The population was determined to be all Stage 1 Kit Performance Package PCMs
built with a modified fault handling strategy that will not have their software
updated as a part of routine installation. Similar Dodge Challenger, Dodge
Charger, and Chrysler 300 PCMs are not included in the recall because they have
a different fault handling strategy software or are updated as a part of the
routine installation.
Production Dates : OCT 27, 2014 - JUN 29, 2018

Description of Remedy Program : FCA US will conduct a Voluntary Equipment Safety Recall to replace the
PCMs with one that contains updated software or perform a software flash
to update the PCM software.
FCA US has a longstanding policy and practice of reimbursing owners who
have incurred the cost of repairing a problem that subsequently becomes
the subject of a field action. To ensure consistency, FCA US, as part of the
owner letter, will request that customers send the original receipt and/or
other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the
expense.
How Remedy Component Differs
from Recalled Component :
Part Name: MODULE - ENGINE CONTROLLER
Part Description: MODULE - ENGINE CONTROLLER
Part Number: P5160023, P5160025, 68412287AA
Comment: These are the recalled part numbers. The remedy parts contain
updated software.

So will I lose my Scat Pack 1 PCM tune if I do the update?

I don't see why you would. I doubt any Demon owners will accept losing the Demon 100 octane tune on their PCMs. This is a separate bulletin for the Stage 1 and Demons, so assume they flash them specifically with just the fix. A Guy

My wife went and asked the dealer today if they were capable of doing this now. They said, they have to swap in the original PCM, do the flash and then swap it back out for the Scat Pack 1 PCM. Does this sound correct? Am I able to swap out the Scat Pack 1 PCM for the original in my drive way and then drive it to the dealer, have them do the reflash and then drive the car home a swap the PCM myself? I just want to make sure that they do not take any "shortcuts" to get it done. Would I have to do the throttle "relearn" after swapping the PCMs?

I'm not sure how updating the stock PCM, then switching back to the Stage 1 could work. Unless the actual change is made outside the PCM, then this would make no sense. The bulletin muddies the water by mentioning replacement PCM AND possibility of a flash

But the way it appeared/appears to me, they would be exchanging the PCM for a Stage 1 already updated

Not sure if Luke @stevewhiteparts is familiar and can advise, but I doubt what your dealer told you is correct

there is a process in place where the customer needs to contact their local dealer, in turn the dealer will call the manufacturer who validate the vehicle and issue a part number for the dealer to order

pretty straight forward process

Thanks, my dealer insists, just got off the phone with them, that they swap the Scat Pack 1 PCM with my stock one, flash it and then swap it back. Oh well I'll let them do it their way. If it does not work and I get killed using the cruise, my wife will be able to hire a pool boy and retire with him in the Bahamas.
