27 rt+ USB connection issue.

I did a search and a few threads came up but all were 16 and below so figured this may help someone. For me it was easy and no need to visit dealer.

Went to the gym this morning all was fine, came out and USB unresponsive, no charging etc but everything else worked aux and cig lighter. I tried a few reset methods which did not work for me as in the 8.4 didn't do anything. I tried the temp up and down hold method and the hold talk and VR button open door etc method nothing. I decided to pull all the fuse for the radio and USB in the trunk and all is well again. Did not have a problem before and did the update about 2 weeks ago. I hope this was just a glitch and nothing more.
Cheers

There is a new software update coming out any day now. I received a service bulletin from my dealer who informed me the update will address a number of uconnect issues, including USB and pairing issued to name a few. The bulletin was dated 5/17/17.

Your dealer has a special tool for testing the usb, when diagnosing this concern I have found a bad module every time ( the part that your cord plugs into)

Thank you gents for the reply and good to know info. I'm glad I did not need to go to the dealer for this, I don't see how something physically is not working correctly for the USB when all I did was pull a fuse. Hopefully a new software update does fix it or this was just a glitch.

Hi golddogs,

Here is some additional information regarding a software update for the 4th generation Uconnect system (available on the 2017 Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger, Charger and the all-new Jeep Compass). After further investigation we have learned that the issue is due to a limitation in Windows operating system’s ability to package self-extracting zip files. Windows has a maximum size limit for self-extracting compressed files of 4GB and the software update is 9GB, which is where the issue is stemming from. However, if you have access to a Mac computer, the macOS operating system’s self-extracting compressed file size limit is significantly larger and as such is able to handle this update. So, in order to download this software update you will either need to visit your local dealership or use a Mac operating system to access the download from the driveuconnect.com. Reminder, this update is 9 GB so you will need a 16GB or larger flash drive, or a portable hard drive, and it will take a while. If I receive any additional information I will let you know!

This forum is awesome... My USB connections failed this afternoon and I was unable to do any updates or play music. Pulling these fuses fixed (at least temporarily) the problem. As for the software update, it is apparent the maps were not part of it due to a road that is close by is still missing from my details... Maybe next time...

IPOD

Okay, after a frustrating day of fighting the thumb drive, I decided to connect my IPOD into the system. Both USB ports identified the IPOD very quickly and started to play music.

Very strange. I know if I try to do an update with my mac the car won't read my thumb drive maybe it's the formatting???

Either way I think I'm going to hold off on this new mac only update seems to cause more trouble then it's worth so far.

Starting to wonder if the programming was only for the iPod products and or any MP3 player. For now, my iPod just found a permanent home until another discovery is found...

Windows WILL unzip the 9 GB update

Hi all,
The IT geek in me meant I had to figure this out. Actually there wasn't much to figure out, I was able to unzip the file using both windows 7 and windows 10.
My update was:
Update 1: UCONNECT_VP4R_CR16.8_MY17_LALDLX_USA
Service Bulletin ID: 08-007-17_REV.D
Release Date: 2017-04-21
Probably not the exact update as many but was 9Gb in size all the same.
-download the file to your desktop (takes around and hour depending on internet speed)
-I re-formatted my 16gb sandisk flash drive to make sure it was clean with nothing on it
-right click on the downloaded zip file and "Extract all" DIRECTLY to the flash drive. (took about an hour to unzip on my machine) I've experimented with extracting to the PC then copying to the flash drive and it never reads once you plug it into the car.
-remove all other devices from the usb ports and plug in the flash drive to your usb port in the vehicle.
-press the Start button twice to get it to Run. Keep your foot off the brake since you don't want the engine to actually start. You just need it in the Run position. Close the door so the beeping doesn't drive you insane LOL.
-within 5 seconds the update name popped up on my screen, prompting to install. It took 30-45 minutes to complete but completed successfully.

Hope this helps someone with the frustration, just wanted to say it is possible on a Windows PC as I successfully updated mine today.

I've had my 17 RT for a few months no with no USB issue and just experienced this same thing for the first time today. No charge, no data, same with multiple devices. Resetting radio didn't help and leaving car off for a while didn't help. Pulled fuse 12 and 38 and it's fine again. Don't know which fixed it but hopefully this doesn't happen again or I'll be into the dealer...
