Just some quick info for anyone with the same problem. Two days ago my car had steam coming out of the left side of the hood, took a look and the liquid was boiling and everywhere but had a very sweet and weird smell(antifreeze), got a ride home in the back of a cop car and let it sit overnight. The shop got the new thermostat installed and so far everything is okay and although possibly irrelevant my engine tick/knock is gone! Hope this helps anyone it can!
