Hey Challenger community its a farely long post so please bare with me.

Am new here never thought id ever be on this website till now. I live in Malaysia so a challenger is almost never on anyone's mind due to RHD and also High capacity engines. In Malaysia our road tax is based on the size of the engine so a 6.4L would cost you about $4000 dollar per year. Recently however there are four used challengers up for sale in malaysia AND its RHD :D. Its the 3.6 version and based on the listing it was manufactured in 2012. My dad and I are huge fans of muscle cars but were kinda out of luck when it comes to the availability of them. We do have the Mustang 2.3 Ecoboost however but my dad and I are just huge fans of the challenger looks especially with the halo lights it looks amazing. Anyways here are the few things i hope anyone could help me with :

1 ) How is the maintenance and reliability on these cars ? I've read through this website a lot of posts saying its pretty reliable almost no problems with the engine. In Malaysia we do have two specialist for Dodge.

2 ) Is the 5 Speed bad ? I understand that the 2015's come with 8 speeds which apparently is better right ?

3 ) 305 hp. Is that enough for a car this heavy ?

4 ) Upgradeability. I've seen some videos that attaches a SuperCharger to the car that allows it to produce 400+ horsepower which is amazing. Is it hard to maintain a car with superchargers ? My dad says if he we this car he is planning to change the headlights and also hoping to add some horsepower. It will eventually be my car in the future which does excite me since ive been driving a Kia for my first car.

I do have the link for the listing but i dont think im allowed to post it here since im new.

I sound like a newbie cos i am so please i appreciate every help and response from everyone of you. Many Thanks. Hope to get to know you guys !

The 5 speed automatic in the car is very realizable. It is the same 5 speed that Mercedes Benz used for years. The car is reliable. There is no easy or inexpensive way to add much power to the car.

Supercharging is certainly an option although that is not a path taken by many for the V6. There are at least a couple of individuals on this forum who have done so. One person who did has the forum name ddenis I believe. I would search his posts for information.

Welcome aboard here.

First off, I can't believe you would have to pay $4000 a year road tax for a 6.4 engine. What would the 3.6 engine cost per year?

To answer some of your questions...

1 - The maintenance isn't a problem with this engine. There was a recall for the alternators, so I doubt that has been addressed in the cars you are looking at. Oil changes are easy since the filter is on top of the engine.

2 - The 5 speed isn't bad. I have experience with both the 5 speed and 8 speed transmission with this engine. Sure, I like the 8 speed more, but I don't think this should be a factor in your decision. This is a minor issue.

3 - I have to ask, have you only driven 4 cylinder cars? The Challenger is heavy, but I don't see any problems with the 3.6 being strong enough.

Welcome to Challengertalk hitman2silent. Plenty reliable, only alternator and airbag (like every other car) recalls. 8 speed better than the 5 speed, but no major issues with the 5 speed either. The V6 is plenty powerful enough, certainly compared to the Kia :)
