I just picked up a beautiful srt8 with a manual Trans on 7-3-14. Has a mopar Cai & MagnaFlow cat back. 13800 miles, on Saturday on a cold start the exhaust fumes smelled rich kinda like fuel. On Sunday as I put her in garage u can smell a rotten foul smell or sulfur like smell. Today i started her up and had the same smell and check engine light was on. I had car towed back to dealer. Any one have any ideas? I'm very disappointed, can't wait to get her back

Sounds like a fuel problem (rich or misfire) causing the cat converters to have that stinky smell. Could be a bunch of different things causing the rich problem.
They filled up gas tank for me before I left, if they put regular instead of super could that be an issue?
I know if you rev the engine and slip the clutch to much it smells terrible. Are you sure the clutch is in good shape? If it isn't clutch related, high sulfur content gas smells bad too.
Well the challenger is a chic magnet maybe some panties got left behind

There were recent reports of jet fuel ending up in some gas station tanks.

I would agree with SRT8Tech that is may be fuel related affecting the catalytic converter. The dealer can provide a definite diagnosis.
Rotten egg smell could be from a fouled cat converter. Try another fresh tank of gas first and do a few wide open throttle runs where safe. If persist, disconnect exhaust pipe to take a look.

No, that should not cause the problem
They told me the code was a p0506 something to do with idle control. I called again a short while ago n they said they flushwd sysytem im assum8ng fuel system and didnt solve issue. So now they are saying bad pcv and replacement will be there in morning
I cant believe a dealer doesn't have a PCV in stock. Ridiculous.

The smell you describe would lead me to think a cat has failed, blown out, toasted etc.
hope it is resolved quickly for you.

Cat/cats are either clogged or cracked. No way to fix them so they will have to be replaced.
They replaced the pcv . They said it was clogged and that was the problem. How foes a clogged pcv cause fuel to dump into the cats?
Last time I had a sulfur type smell, it was the alternator. Check it out.

PCV is metered air flow (via crankcase from fresh air inlet on the oil filler tube to the airbox) and this is post-throttle body air feeding into the engine. I could see that with less overall air volume, the A/F mixture go run richer than what the PCM programming could lean the A/F ratio out to for its normal range of operation.

So if the PCV line or valve were clogged, that would be less incoming air at idle/ part throttle. At WOT, the PCV closes, as crankcase air becomes more positive pressure due to the additional blow-by under WOT conditions.

The PCV valves acts as a metering valve for controlled venting at low and partial loads on the engine.
Just an open question...how does a PVC system get clogged on a car with 13,800 miles?
Good question, I guess being defective from factory took some time for it to happen! I don;t believe it was the pvc time will tell!!
I was stumped by that as well, 13,800 miles is basically new. I have an 07 ram 1500 with 92,000 miles on it with original pcv. Had truck since new
