Sure the weep hole on the thermostat is positioned at midnight?

How hot is it getting? Sure you are not looking at oil temp?

There have been a couple of folks here who installed a new thermostat only to find out the new one was bad (most were the 180F thermos though). There should also be a plug (although I think the SP has a hose and not a plug) to bleed the system.

Make sure you don't mix OAT & HOAT antifreeze as it will generate sludge.

Are you hearing any noises from the water pump? It is not uncommon for the bearing to go out causing the impeller to be chewed up.
