Thought this was cool. I like some of the changes

Every year, car designers and engineers feed on the energy created by the Woodward Dream Cruise, according to one of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' top engineers.

"It's a big reminder to us of how passionate people are about their cars. It's not just another appliance," said Alison Rahm, the chief engineer for the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger after FCA unveiled the latest updates versions of its famed muscle cars at the Vinsetta Garage in Royal Oak.

"We feed on that energy."

Rahm said like the swaths of spectators each August, Chrysler designers and staff look forward to the Dream Cruise, slated to officially begin Saturday, Aug. 20.

Tim Kuniskis, head of Passenger Cars - Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA - North America, said more than 1.5 million enthusiasts are expected to come to Woodward to celebrate classic muscle cars this week, "so it's a perfect opportunity to pay tribute to the Challenger T/A and Charger Daytona with new special editions."

Kuniskis said the "Roadkill Nights" event FCA is sponsoring on Woodward in Pontiac on Friday, Aug. 19, promises to create even more excitement this year.

"We're actually going to close down Woodward Avenue for racing," said Kuniskis.

Rahm added FCA has a well-stocked parts bin that allows the automaker to tinker with both the Charger and the Challenger year after year.

The new 2017 Challenger T/A and Charger Daytona models on display at the Vinsetta Garage offer even more performance and heritage-inspired styling to the naturally aspirated Dodge 5.7- and 6.4-l "392" Hemi engine, Kuniskis said.

"There is nothing autonomous about these cars," said Kuniskis, noting that both models are specifically designed to offer the seat-of-your-pants thrill that has made muscle cars so popular over the years.

The 2017 Challenger T/A and Charger Daytona models displayed for the Dream Cruised offer even more power and styling drawn directly from a long line of Dodge muscle cars to the naturally aspirated Dodge 5.7- and 6.4-liter "392" Hemi engines, Rahm said.

Both models incorporate features from SRT Hellcat and R/T Scat Pack, such as the new front fascia and the hood with an air scoop, which directs cold-air hood Hellcat air box on the Challenger T/A models. The "Air Catcher" headlamps inspired by the Hellcat add even more fresh air and feature unique LED-illuminated "T/A" logos, she said.

The other new 2.75-inch electronically controlled active exhaust system on 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 models delivers a signature muscle car sound and wider, 20 x 9-inch and 20 x 9.5-inch wheels with high-performance. Goodyear and Pirelli tires help improve handling on 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter HEMI-powered models, respectively

The 2017 model also offers additional stopping power from performance brake linings on 5.7-liter models, while 6.4-liter models add an ultra-high performance Brembo brake system with six-piston front - and four-piston rear - brake calipers, Rahm said.

Satin Black exterior graphics and appointments, including available hood pins on Challenger T/A, highlight Dodge brand's cultivation of its storied performance history. Both models will also come performance bolstered seats and Dodge performance steering wheel with available die-cast paddle shifters.

Kuniskis added a limited-production Green Go, plus a revised Yellow Jacket hue add to Dodge brand's High-Impact Paint legacy, debuting with Challenger T/A and Charger Daytona.

Kuniskis said production for 2017 Challenger T/A and Charger Daytona models will begin this fall with ordering for Charger Daytona beginning in September and Challenger T/A in October. FCA also has lined up a sufficient supply of components to meet what the company expects will be a healthy demand for both models, he said.
