Well after 5/6 weeks and many phone calls with no success I threatened dealership with a return and claim for damages. Suddenly they fitted me in next day. Car now in dealership and Dodge have approved head unit replacement! Shocker. Let’s see if this fixes my issues, hopefully SOS will work also. Everyone be wary, you may have U-connect apps and U-connect head unit however you may not have u-connect, that’s something I learnt!! I so miss my Chevy

I can probably save you some time, so I'll tell you how my first encounter went.

I had the same issue. Noticed it within the first week of having my car. When hitting the SOS button, they stated my car was sitting in the middle of the Arctic Ocean off the coast of Russia. Yup, clearly not the case if I'm sitting in it, so the fun dealing with UConnect, Dodge and Sirius started.

The dealership tried updating the software and that wasn't the issue. I was registered with UConnect so that wasn't the issue. It was decided that they would replace the receiver up near the rear view mirror so one was supposedly ordered. That was back in Dec. of 2016.

Come February, nothing from dealership/Dodge/UConnect/Sirius Guardian. We start making calls very, very long story short, someone finally says a whole new head unit is ordered. This all indicates no one has any clue wtf is going on with their stuff.

Now, I had already told the dealership that the unit upon purchase was rebooting/freezing/blank screen/ipod and phone connection issues. I'm told use a new cable for the ipod and the other stuff would be taken care of with the head unit replacement.. so 2 birds, one stone, right?

Head unit is replaced and I'm told the mechanic verified location services worked, etc. before I picked up my car.

Yeah. Lies. I find out it's all still broken. I'm told maybe the mechanic was having "personal issues" as the excuse my stuff is still broken.

So, issue turns out the issue with Sirius Guardian stuff and locator issues was because Sirius Guardian never properly provisioned the account. Yes, They all passed the buck and blamed eachother and put me through months of hours of calls, numerous trips to the dealership, etc because someone was too lazy to actually find out if the account and had been properly provisioned. UConnect said it was a Sirius Issue, Sirius blamed UConnect, they blamed Dodge and round and round it went. In the mean time, my system is still freezing/rebooting/devices not connecting/etc. Now, at least pressing SOS locates my car, but my vehicle app doesn't work, I don't get my monthly VHRs with any regularity (I've gotten 5 in the 1 year I've had my car) and my whole unit is malfunctioning on a regular basis.

So, more trips, more updates done at the dealership, media center being replaced, still the issues continue and still, no resolution.

Then there is the picture of a STAR team note that states replacing these head units prior to update 16.7 won't help with the issues they're having that I found here on a different forum (it's posted in quite a few Dodge vehicle forums-Charger/Jeep/etc), further indicating issues. I have been told by the dealership I take my car to that there is no newer model radio than what we have to be put in now that we've all had the latest updates and the issues persist:

So, your issue will likely be "resolved" when Sirius Guardian finally provisions your account properly. To get this done will take MANY calls insisting they do this. You must call Dodge and insist they make sure this is done, too.

The only fixed in my car to date has been the SOS button location issue. NOTHING else has been fixed.
For those getting "new" radios to "resolve" their issues, be sure you're actually getting a new radio. Go into Dealer mode and check it before and after:

Picture taken in July 2017 before the software update in August:

You can see the serial number and hardware part number

Picture taken in September 2017 a few weeks after we did the August update:

Same serial number and hardware part number

I'll note that another user here got a "new" radio after mine being told this would resolve their issues and sent me a photo of their head unit screen in dealer mode. It's the EXACT same hardware part number as mine: CNSCM6N0FL

Photograph your dealer mode info before it goes in and after. Keep a running log of what is being replaced.

Hopefully, you get the resolution you need, but so far, I've not heard one person get their issues fixed with a head unit replacement. :frown:

I bought my 2018 392 Shaker last week and went to drive her this morning. Radio was stuck on xm and wouldn't play or change. After driving for 30 min radio worked after I stopped and started her back up but performance pages won't work. Have an appointment tomorrow with the dealership. This is ridiculous on a brand new car that hasn't even done more than 50 miles from the dealership.

It's horrible this has extended to the 18's since it was and is an issue in the 17's. My husband has had this XM issue you describe while driving my Challenger. This happens with phones too, fwiw.

He listens to a lot of XM while I use mostly iPod/USB. Both things are problems with these systems. In his truck, he hasn't experienced these issues. In my car, same as you, he's had to pull over if he is in a place he can easily do so, shut it off, open the doors then restart it to get it going again. Of course, this situation isn't something you should have to do with any car, let alone, a brand new one.

I had my car into the shop within a week of purchase and the merry-go-round has not stopped since. Today (the 28th) is the 1 year anniversary of buying my car and while beautiful looking, I have no faith that Dodge will ever get it fixed and I'll get what I paid for. They know these issues exist and have left their customers with a defective product with no resolution in sight.

are these issues mainly hardware or software issue? I haven’t updated my 17 when a lot of these threads started to pop up. I wonder if you can downgrade the software if it’s software related

For me it was software related. Lost sport mode when I updated. You can't downgrade via USB but I think the dealers may be able to force a firmware downgrade...I think some posted they had this done.

For the 2015, 2016 the issue is software. For the 2017, 2018 the issue is hardware. They switched to Panasonic in 2017. Not that one can't have HW issues on a 2015/16, or SW issues on a 2017/18. Many still don't know what the fix is for 2017/18 as they have had updates, and units replaced with no fix. A Guy

That’s insane, just crazy...if it helps anyone I have a 17 and haven’t updated two firmwares ago don’t know which ver since I’m not in my car. Can’t hurt if you’re able to downgrade the software and see if it helps? I’m pretty sure it would have to be a DIY thing

Downgrading the firmware on the radio is NOT a DIY thing. The downloaded software does a version check and will tell you if you have the same or higher software. In order to downgrade you need the dealer software that does not do a version check at the start of the firmware install.

Update. Went to the dealership yesterday. They looked at it and said the radio needed to be swapped out. Still have my car just waiting on a radio. Once received they said they will swap it out, the service was great. They said mine was the second 2018 that they have seen this week with the same issue.

Bought my 17 in July, and had 3 of those lock ups over a span of about 3 weeks. I did the August update at home and I have not had one issue since, about 7k miles of driving.

So with 17s, its very possible there are both hardware and software issues.

I just had the radio replaced in my 2018 SXT and within 45 minutes of driving it acted up again. I’m going to wait for another failure, record it with iPhone and bring it back. This will be second fix if I do and counted towards the three strike lemon law. Dealer said they would help me with the LL if that’s what needs to be done. One sales manager told me that roughly 1 out of 5 Chrysler products suffer with this crap.

I'm curious if it's related to the folks that have the Nav load in the radio and/or Uconnect features and Sirius Guardian. I have the 8.4 Non Nav. The only navigation I wanted was Android Auto. I added this car to my existing Sirius/XM account and intentionally did not activate Guardian or the freebee Uconnect offering. I also asked the salesman to NOT sign me up as a courtesy to those offerings.

I took delivery in Feb 2017. In early May my phone had issues maintaining a connection with the 8.4 and had one occurrence of the volume/system controls not responding. May 7th, I updated the firmware to 16.8 rev c dated 3-21-17. Since then I have no issues and have chosen to not do any more updates (for obvious reasons).

Mine has the Nav, I didn't want it but it had everything else that I did. It came off the truck July 14th.

Sirius never lets me add a new radio to my account and drop the old one, it always makes me start a new account for the new radio. (Worse Customer service ever this company). I did not active guardian or any of that other stuff.

Wide spread brotha, no joke. Do a search for Uconnect radio resets on Google.
