Daily driver automatic RT. No track time, but i do like to drive fast. Might do an occasional road course. Going to have a wavetrac installed next month. Was wondering if the additional cost of swapping to 3.23 gear at the same time would be worth the cost. Its an extra $600. Unfortunately no 3.55 available until late summer. Thoughts? Worth the extra 600 to go to 3.23?

Wait for 3.55. Doing that switch is like a poor man's supercharger. No, I am not saying it will add hp, but it will feel like you did. Went from 3.07 to 3.55 on a Viper and it was a very fun change!

If its already apart I would do it. I put 3.55 in mine last year don't regret it at all.
I'm a little late on seeing this post , but I've been thinking about a set of 3.55's myself. Do you have any gear "whine" noise since your install ? And where can I get a set from ?

You only get gear whine if not properly put in or used in some cases.

I would go at least 3.73s. 3.92 or 4.10s would be ideal. I remember when I switched my open differential 3.55s on my 5.9 Ram to 4.10s with LSD and it woke that sonamabitch up!!!

Decided to wait on the wavetrac. Waiting for pricing on the 2015s before I do any more mods

3.92 and 4.10 works fine with your 6 speed but is going to be uncomfortable in an A5...........An A5 with 245/45/20 tires and 3.06 gears tachs 2200rpm at 75mph...3.23 tachs 2400....3.55 tachs 2600....3.73 tachs 2750....3.91 tachs 2850..........4.10 tachs 3000.

OP if you want to see how the car sounds at speed: simulate 3.73s drive 75mph in 4th gear.....if that is too much for you go 3.23 or 3.55.

I have had 3.55, 3.73 and now have 3.23. I went from a 3.73 to my current 3.23 about a month ago. I picked up 3mph and dropped .3 in the quarter proving that lower gears are not always the way to go. I also dropped my 60' time from 1.834 to 1.602......11.6 @ 118 with a 2600 DA..

Now that is impressive !! 3.23 gear may not be a bad move at all for an all around gear for a A5 even with a few bolt-on's .

Just to qualify the gains I had....I have a 426 stroker with about 520rwtq....more than 100ftlbs than a stock 392. With the 3.73 I had to launch light to keep from spinning....The 3.23 allowed harder launches and got me thru the traps at the top of 3rd gear. With the 3.73 I was shifting into 4th just before the traps. So the 3.23 helped me launch and saved one shift........

With my setup my two gear choices are the 3.23 and 4.30......The 4.30 probably would lower my ET .2+ but not a gear for the street....

A stock RT or SRT will see reduction in ET of about .2 for a 3.55, .3 for a 3.73 and .5 for a 3.91..........

I'm having issues at the track with a supercharger and 3.92 gears on my 6speed. I'm having to change gears before all the traps and having to shift into 4th before the end of the 1/8th. Maybe 20 feet. Would you recommend a 3.55 for my 6speed to slow the rise of the rpms ?
