So, I spot this Charger yesterday, looks like a Scat Pack. The tires caught my eye. As you see in the pic, the tires (front and back) are 305/35 x 20 and appear to be mounted on factory rims. As the diameter difference between a 275/40, which I have on my Challenger, and the 305/35 is negligible I'd like to upgrade to the 305s on all 4 corners. The wheels on my '18 SRT are the factory 9.5" width. So, my obvious question is whether the 305s will work on my 9.5" rims and if so will I have any other problems.

For best contact patch and tire fitment a 9.5 inch rim should probably not go over 275.

You can make larger fit but the side walls on the tires will bulge.

Those work AND look good and right because that Widebody has 11” wide wheels holding those 305’s. While the diameter of the 305 is similar, their 10.8” width is much different than the 12” width of a 305.

Wide body comes with 305 squared due to the 11inch wide rims from factory.

The chart above is from the tirerack.com site. As you can see the minimum recommended width is 10 inches. A 9.5 inch wheel is close but it will pinch the sidewalls in and cause a crown in the tread.
Wide body models have enlarged wheel openings to clear the additional width. 305s may rub up front.

Here are the specs on a typical 275/40/20, from the same site.

Note that in both cases the tread width is roughly the same as the rim width. When the tread width exceeds the rim width most of the weight will be carried by the center of the tread. If the tread width is narrower, the shoulders end up carrying the weight.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here but don't all Widebody's come with 11" wide rims too?
Correct. 20x11 with 2.5mm negative offset. All other sizes have a positive offset between ~18-25mm.

Wide-bodys are about an 1½" wider per side. Hence the 1½" wider wheels.

A 275/40-20 tire is the widest that will perform and wear properly. If you want to go with a 305 tire, you will have to buy wider wheels with the proper offset.

on the 9.5" a 295 / 40 is the widest you can go.

Noob question. So I can swap the 245's for the 275's and not have to change wheels for my 16 scatpack challenger?

Assuming the wheels are atleast 9" wide yes. Pretty sure all 392 wheels are 9" tho

Standard 392 wheels are 9" but the wheels that come with factory 275 tires are 9.5" and have a different offset to push them out a little for clearance (18.5mm vs 25.5mm).
