392 IE vs Stang 5.0 CS street race!

I found this on youtube. from stand still the stang took off real strong but then the 392 starts to catch up. I believe if the mustang guy didn't slow down the Chally would have pulled away.

Nice to see the 392 catching up. Those stangs run really well and apparently so do the new 392's!
Pretty much as expected. They both have similar hp/weight ratio, so I'd expect them to be close in a race.
Big boy did well. 392 definitely runs hard, real hard to move that girth. I have seen 5.0s pull hard on SSs, so we know the 392 can run.
i think the 392 had him ... he pulled all the way back up in what looked like 2nd and steadily gain on him until the mustang let off .... that was one hell of a run ... i have been wanting to see that for awhile ... we all know the mustangs are very fast ... but id like to see that again all out ... and did either have a tune or exhaust and the other not .... need a rerun ...

5.0 has steeda cold air, flowmasters,x-pipe,mdx clutch and 91 tune-6 speed. 392 is stock-auto. both on street tires. 0-100 race. challenger clocked a 12.8 1/4 mile on his gauge.
Typical hemi for you! I once had a 1968 Dodge 426 4 gear, it was the same way, lose 3 to 6 cars to 60 then get them back by 90 always won by 110. this is just the nature of the hemi headed beast, I had a run once with a 68 camero L88 he took me 6 cars at 60, had 3 left by 90, 110 even, 125 I was 3 cars ahead, by 135, 8 cars and pulling. One of my friends was with that guy during the race, he said you could see this big grin on his face up to 60 then he lost it and my buddy was saying to him, get your foot in it, he is gaining, by 90 the guys looked had changed and at 125 he was very very pissed off.
if the mustange had what RICH said ... then the 392 with same mods appears would win ...... hmmmm ... have to say iiiiiiii like it
Then came the Boss. If I had the money to own both the challenger and boss I would. The boss engine has forged internals a 7500rpm redline, has a different intake manifold, side and rear quad exhaust, I saw a grabber orange one at a dealer yesterday dang near had to change my pants. Rated at 444hp, if it is anything like the regular 5.0 I would be guessing its probably in the 460hp range or better really. While my chally runs good and is a looker, the new 5.0s are ridiculous. There is one N/A, with ported heads and bolt ons, gutted, running an aggressive tune running 10.98 in the quarter on slicks thats honkin.
cool vid! Nice to see the modded mustang getting beat by the stock 392. These videos are all together making my decision of an rt vs the 392 purchase very tough indeed!

Get the 392! I drove an IE 392 yesterday and it was a blast! They pull hard throughout the whole RPM range! Can't wait to race one at the track, I've raced a few 5.0s. Beat a few, but I've lost to others as well.
And I actually test drove a new auto 5.0 yesterday as well..and I was left pretty unimpressed. They don't have much power at all down low, it pulls like a truck off the line until you hit about 3000rpms..then it rockets forward. Couldn't believe it wouldn't light up the tires from a stand still, my R/T will do it on command.
personally i do not think this bodes well for us challenger owners !
the 392 is our big dog , mustangs have 3 more trim levels every one faster than the others.
as for 6.1 ? and r/t's best save their gas.
but yes ,we do have the best looking cars !

I'd rather "waste" my gas :D lol

I ran a 12.64 and the 6speed 5.0 w/a tune ran a 12.68

nice run !
so the 6.4 didn't know how to drive ?

I guess the stock 5.0 and the stock 392 are very close, it does depend on the driver. as far as the R/T vs 5.0 video, both cars are modded with the R/T having more mods than the mustang. This R/T is fast and could beat the 392 as well. with those 1/4 times. I would rely more on the trap speed though.

The 6.1 and the 5.7 stand no chance against the 5.0 in factory stock condition. It's a shame if the 392 would struggle to beat the mustang too!

true, but how often are people going to take their stock anything to the track? maybe once or twice for baselines, but most people racing are going to mod. look at the mods chris did though...really just basic bolt ons and achieving those kind of times...thats impressive.
