392 vs Mustang 5.0 video

Just stumbled upon this highway pull video on Youtube.

Not sure I totally buy the "stock" label for the mustang considering at minimum the wheels/tires are clearly aftermarket with wider than stock rubber. Plus the Mustang had the inside lane...

What do you guys think?

Just looked at the guys other uploads and found a few more.

The last one I posted because in it you can hear an interesting whine/whistle as the mustang passes by...

That does indeed sound like a little turbo in there. Eh, who knows.
I posted the same video in the Camaro/Mustang thread. If it's a regular GT, it's not great news for 392 owners.

We don't know if it was a stock Mustang either. I agree that the back wheels & tires look seriously wide for one thing, which might suggest other mods have been done too. A simple tuner could add 25-30 HP. Not sure if the Mustang was an auto or a stick either.

While the auto 392 has the advantage out of the hole, once rolling the 392 manual has closer spaced ratios and less parsitic loss and just might win a roll-on against a 392 auto (and thus do better against that Mustang).

It did look like the 392 held him in one of the roll-ons from a lower speed. Looked pretty even all they way out to the let-off.

Anyway, the Mustang GT is no push-over and I wouldn't recommend taking that car lightly or you just might be looking at his tail lights.

Considering how rich Dodge runs these engines at WOT and how much spark advance is left on the table, I'm pretty certain a Diablo CRM tune on a 392 is going to yield a serious power/torque increase - like 30-35 HP and TQ on 93 octane.

What effin country is that??
IMO, those were CLOSE races regardless. He's got a few races on youtube... all but one were neck and neck.

From the two road signs looks like Mexico, but I could be wrong though.
given the fact that our car weighs a hell of a lot more than the 'stang I'd say the 392 gave them all they can handle.

I'd agree. Even if stock-stock, the 392 held its ground just fine and basically broke even against a smaller car. If that 5.0 was even lightly modded, more kudos to the 392!
The mustang still has the stock mufflers on it. Anyway, I have said before I have seen many bone stock 5.0's run in the 113mph 1/4 mile.
I've done this exact same kind of rolling race with a brand new 5.0 in my 392. It was generally back and forth depending on who started accellerating first (like a lot of these races are when you have a rolling start and no "starting" light). Sometimes I'd pull ahead of him, sometimes he'd pull ahead of me. From a stop light I really buried him.
That's a joke what a big let down for dodge fans like myself that is how we should be with the Shelby gt 500 !!!

NOT IMPRESSED !!!!!

Your response is more emotional than reasonable. The 5.0 is a lightweight, substantial advantage (nearly 600lbs) - no excuse, just physics. The 5.0 guys would give GT500s a run for their money as well. Those videos prove one thing, the 392 is a powerhouse to be able to move a 4200lb car door-to-door with a 5.0. Do not allow your feelings to cloud the facts - the 392 is a huge car and can beat a 5.0! The Challenger would be an 11 second car if it wieghed merely 3650lbs.
Weight is the big issue and that is due to dodge . First the wale of a charger srt that dodge made into a four door then years later make a two door chally that weighs just as much ? Go figure ! Then dodge adds more weight to the new charger and chally yes Im Very dissapointed ! And I could go on starting with the five speed auto, should already be retired dodge droped the ball !

I don't know if you were around in the '60's but Chrysler always had heavier cars. Maybe the Viper aside , of course but that's the way it is. The good thing is you can always make your car faster, but never can change it's looks.

All kidding aside, you have to admit, Chrysler hit a grand slam in designing this car. :bigthumb:
This is not the 60s !! And yes chally looks killer just lacks performance it could have !!!
I am not surprised....I recently drove the new 5.0 and it is a monster, right off the lot. Wow. And this from a Camaro SS owner.....the 5.0 simply pulls harder, shifts smoothly, and sounds like a beast.

Ford is to be commended. I have not driven the 392, so I can't comment on it, but anyone who takes the new GT lightly will have a rude awakening. Now if only Ford would fix that ugly back end.

LOL! I thought the same thing!
