392 vs Mustang 5.0 video

Just stumbled upon this highway pull video on Youtube.

Not sure I totally buy the "stock" label for the mustang considering at minimum the wheels/tires are clearly aftermarket with wider than stock rubber. Plus the Mustang had the inside lane...

What do you guys think?

This is not the 60s !! And yes chally looks killer just lacks performance it could have !!!
It isin't? Gee thanks for informing that. Get over the weight issue!
Theres no way a stock 5.0 would have 3 car lengths against a stock 392 at the start. unless the driver of the 392 is really bad at driving. I'm referring to the 2nd video thats 2:03.
I had already driven a 392 locally and compared to my R/T wow! The old 6.1 would probably pull the R/T but it was not a huge difference the 392 was.

I got a chance today to drive a new 5.0 Stang. And again holy crap that thing pulls hard. I cant say if it pulled harder than the 392. Probably will end up as a drivers race.

There was one advantage to the Stang. The car I looked at could be bought for right around 28k new. It was a base car granted but that is a lot of bang for the buck.
$ 28,000.00 is a killer price for a car with all that performance !!

To bad dodge don't offer a car for $28,000.00 with that kind of performance, instead the cheapest a srt is $ 44,000.00 !

I would love a striped down srt for $ 28,000.00
We have no idea if that Mustang is stock. A more telling video is the Mustang GT/CS 392Pusher ran against in his bone stock auto 392 with a green engine.

That Mustang had a CAI, X-pipe, exhaust, and a 91 octane tuner (brand not specified) and was making around 450 crank HP (412 is stock).

He got the jump on 392Pusher by 1/2 car length because he popped the aftermarket clutch and got a nice hard launch whereas 392Pusher has the ESC light flashing and it was pulling power. Once the ESC turned off, the 392 strongly pulled back even and it was nose-nose out to 110+.

Based on what I know intake, tuner and exhaust can add to a Mustang GT (which is to say a bunch - probably 0.4 in the 1/4-mile easy), I'm pretty sure 392 owners will walk a stock GT unless they totally blow the launch. I'm not saying it will be a cake walk -but it should be a win.

Another way to look at it - wait until 392Pusher adds a CAI, exhaust, and a Diablo tuner (or better yet a CRM tune) - and let's have a re-run of that same race against a similarly modded GT. Game over.

I'm a big Mustang fan too - respect the heck out of Ford for bringing the best bang for the buck on the domestic performance front and the Coyote 5.0 is one hella strong engine. As an side, I am a little peeved all the car magazines are rating the Boss 302 at 444 HP with the TracKey enabled though - it's 490 HP. I think C&D is the only one who tested it off and it ran 12.7 (right where it should be) and everyone else is running 12.3 with it enabled. Big difference - basically like adding a tuner.

Ford is charging $302 for the TracKey mode, and I think Dodge should respond with a $392 track tune for the 392 Hemi. There is a lot of untapped potential in that engine and I'm sure Diablo and CRM will eventually demonstrate.

Ford is smacking us around in every way but looks and that sucks !!

6.1 is dead meat against the 5.0 and the 392 can't move are wale to destroy the 5.0 it looks like it could be a draw with 5.0 and 392 in a straight line!
Through the twistys no comparison 5.0 dominates !!
Yes we weigh more so dodge why only 470-470 all that time and that's the best u got !!
The new ss will also beat the new 392 !

6.1 never been a dead meet against mustang 5.0 we have beatin them with just a few mods with less than 390rwhp u can check my post, Now for the 392 its still early, wait for them just after the 6000 miles mark with around 420-430 rwhp it will destroy even the slightly modded once.

For the "camaro ss" u r telling us a joke.

see this video for the same srt8 with intake & tune vs Camaro SS with intake & no cats

we are talking 6.1 here :

Don`t listen to those guys as they were laughing at the camaro guy while he was recording this too thinking that he will beat them :p
The new ss will also beat the new 392 !
That is absolutely incorrect. My wife has a 2010 Camaro SS 6-speed. My best run with her car was [email protected] Car is bone stock and last year at the track, a couple guys with stock 5.0 Mustangs were turning 12.90's and were a little quicker. My friend bought a IE SRT8 392 6-speed. And in a few street battles up to about 80mph he took me by a car and a half and was still pulling on me. I was impressed enough to buy a 392 which I picked up yesterday. I can't comment how a 6.1 SRT8 would run against the SS, but from personal experience, I know the 392 will beat it.
I think the srt8s are kings from a roll & they lack from a dead stop as for my experiance the best roll race for the srt8 would be 50-60km/h at first gear u count it in miles. mine has a CAI,No cats, pulley & exhaust raced an ls2/ls3 vettes ,gt500 996gt3 & turbo, 997 carrera S, gtr35,cls amg, e63, rs4 & many more

wons were :

ls2 vette
996gt3/turbo
997 carrera S
cls55
rs4

Lost to :

gtr at 2nd gear
ls3 vette at third gear
gt500 end of the third gear at 180kmh
e63 at forth gear

Are you disappointed because the Challenger isn't fast enough or because it isn't faster than a Mustang?
Disapointed from the 08 -11 model because of weight which in this case causes slow 0-60 1/4 mile, handling performance all around !!

Not 2010 ss to be faster then 392 talkin the new ss 2012 !!

Why would a 426hp 2012 Camaro SS be faster than a 426hp 2010 Camaro SS??

Are you talking about the ZL-1?? Cause that will destroy the SRT....but a SS?? HELL NO!!!

BTW, Camaro SS with a full tank (my buddies) weighs 4176 pounds with him NOT in the car....Not exactly Svelte!! Seeing as my R/T is 4090 with a full tank....and I make him look silly all the time!!

THAT is really what it distills down to in 1 sentence! This is the reality check that everybody should do once in a while, when you start questioning if a Challenger is a fast car or not. You can barely dip into the thing w/o the law getting on your case, and it can easily turn the driver into a red smudge on a concrete barrier if they fail to respect how fast the car is. Isn't that quite well enough to be happy with the car? ;)
it doesnt tell you anything with this video, on a highway with traffic, who hit the gas first get a little jump anyway. who is willing to take chances over the other guy. To many things to consider.
The dood complaining about the weight of the Challenger is cracking me up. What did you expect in such a large comfortable car? Sat in a Mustang lately? I love them as well, but holy cow it's a two seater with fake back seat thrown in just to say it's there.

Cool videos. The turbo sound is coming from the little green car I believe. If that Mustang had a turbo it would lay waste to that Challenger.

I think the Challenger did good against a car that's literally 25% smaller.

When car shopping, it's best to decide what you really want. A fast car that's comfortable and looks great, or just a fast car period.

My buddy with a Cobra Mustang had to get a trailer to tow behind the Cobra for his track gear. I just throw mine in the trunk :)

But the good news is we can make our cars faster but still have a comfortable car. That's what I always liked about Mopar, big, mean, classic muscle.

You can't make a Mustang or Camero as comfortable to drive as the Challenger or carry 4 in comfort.
Love the new 392.
Not a fan of shakey videos that I can't understand.
Everyone who bought a 392 Challenger could have bought a Mustang 5.0 or a Camaro SS. I just saying...:cowtounge:

Yep, could have and didnt. :) By the way, my buddy has a new manual 5.0 with custom tune, CAI and exhaust. He is putting down 417rwhp and 405rwtq with no bottle and makes well over 500 with the 75 shot. I know once he finds out I have a new 392 he will want to run me. Unfortunately he runs 12.40's @ 119 with the above mods on the STOCK TIRES without the bottle.

If you get CAI, LTs, exhaust, and a CRM tune then it will be a fair fight. Until then you will be bringing a knife to a gun fight. If you do make those mods and run him, make sure he pulls the bottle so he's not tempted to tickle the juice when you start walking him.
