So with gas prices rising steadily higher, am I the only person that wishes they could force MDS on? I wish there was some button I could push that would just leave MDS on all the time when I want it, getting me a lot better gas mileage. If it delivers half of the 470 horses and gives me 235, then that still plenty to pull this car around :)

When I'm doing my daily commute, I don't really NEED the 470 horsepower. Alternately, if there was some way to set the threshhold for MDS kicking in. Maybe something like normal (which is what it is now), off which would have MDS never kick in, and then economy which would leave MDS on unless you pushed the accelerator down past say 75%.

Right now when I'm driving around in city driving, its darn near impossible to keep MDS on now matter how gently I drive. I have to get the car up over 55 or be coasting down a hill to get it to stay on consistently. When it does kick on, I can see my average MPG go way up.

Anyway, that's my little rant about gas mileage :) Maybe an SRT engineer will read this and put out a software update for the car with my suggestion :)

Yeah, the MDS on my Charger kicks out above 60 mph, and I wish it would stay on to a higher speed. I like your idea of the 3-position switch.

You have a good point.

Are you using evic to tell you your ave MPG or do you have one of those after market ECO gauges? I do not have my car yet and dont know what Evic will or wont tell me yet. Thanks AK907

must be different for the R/T, mine is on all the time, even at highway speeds 70 and up, I really have to stomp on it to get the other 4 cylinders to kick in.

anyone who can afford $50,000 for a car doesnt need to save gas

until gas is $10 per gallon + i wont even think about it...

my answer is - who cares!..or why bother...

you dont buy a 470 hp car to get 25 miles per gallon...you buy a 470 hp/$50,000 car to get 10 mpg

my car is not a daily driver...maybe if it was id have a different attitude....i would have gotten an SE or RT if it was a daily driver

I can afford gas - but I hate sending my money overseas...

I originally ordered the Auto because I figured the MDS would be a great fuel saver. Then I realized that the 6 speed got better gas mileage and more fun to drive anyway...

Man, weren't you supposed to STOP being grumpy now that you got your car :p

I use my car as a daily driver, and I enjoy having the power when I want it. But it seems like Dodge tried SO hard to make sure you never notice that the MDS kicks in, that they made it hardly ever kick in. Seems to me that a simple software update to this "$50,000 car" could add an option to the EVIC to allow me to modify when MDS kicks in and save me a lot of gas mileage. And just because I CAN afford the gas, doesn't mean that I want to waste it when I'm just commuting to work.

It's strange that different people are getting different result with this MDs system. I have an 09 RT auto and it will kick on right after I get out the lower gear coming off a stop light. It will do this as low as 35mph. Last fall on my trip I was pulling my harley on a open light weight trailer. I was running 80mph in MDS mode. The only time it kicked off was when I was going thru the mountains on some steep grades. I still got 23 to 24 miles to the gallon pulling a 1,000lbs.

what im saying is that i dont even think about mileage... why are you? you all have money...who cares about saving $5 a week on gas...why even think about it.

if you dont want to send your $ over seas then i recommend you think about who to vote for in 2012...you can always buy from Citgo..Hugo isnt overseas

im not being grumpy, im telling it like it is...

do you think people who drive a ZR-1 or a Ferrari wish they had a MDS button?....so why do you want one?

Let me put it another way - I got to the point where I could afford a $50,000 car by NOT wasting money :) Once again, if there is some technological solution that saves me money by giving me better gas mileage, I'm interested.

some company should come out with an aftermarket solution..

you didnt get to $50,000 by saving $1 a day.......its not like you'd be saving $200 a month.....Many Challenger owners use their 392's as weekend drivers.....saving gas wouldnt effect most of us very much...

if your using a 470 hp car as a daily driver i think its odd to worry about money at all!....most people get a 30mpg car for a daily driver....if mpg is important then why did you get a 470 hp car?...

MPG is probably the last thing on my list when i considered the 392...i could care less if it got 10 mpg......it would just give me another thing to brag about if it did.

i had a 71 455 grandprix that got 11 mpg when i was young....cars w/ big motors get bad milage

I'm not sure where the debate is. :) After all it would be great to have MDS engage more often. Those that didn't like that could resolve it once the Predator is set up to program our cars. So ultimately everybody could have what they want. :D

actually, in order to make the mds come on, all you have to do is let OFF the gas a bit once you are at a constant speed, it comes on all the time as soon as you are off the pedal. Mine works from 25mph all the way to 90mph as long as you're cruising at a constant pace, just let off the gas a hair and the mds turns on. Helps to have the EVIC indicator show the ECO indicator.

Unfortunately there is some debate whether using mds actually gives you better mileage than using the autostick feature. I got the auto to get better mileage using MDS as well as being able to run regular in an R/T. (probably shouldn't have loaded a 91 octane tune with a predator afterwards, but hey, we all have to play sometime)

I've never considered an automatic so the MDS is a non-issue for me. I remember there were many people upset about the 392 even having it so this thread is directly contrary to that. If I had an automatic, I'd welcome the extra gas mileage, but it's about even having a 6 spd.
IMO, the MDS on the 392 was added more to give the powers at be a warm and fuzzy feeling rather than actual functionality, which is why it barely operates in that mode.

I would have to agree with Ramm on this one. At least make it a driver selectable option. I opted for the 6sp because I didn't want MDS, but if one could shut it off the auto would be more enticing.

Well actually it works great on the highway. Since it stays on almost all the time on the highway when you don't have your foot in it, I can get over 24 mpg on the highway. Its the city driving I wish I could force it on for.
