Buying a Sublime 1320 SP

2065 Views 55 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  Kermit1320
In the process of buying a new 1320 Sublime Green SP, and could use some help with the following:

1. Dodge's site indicates there is a $2,000 bonus cash for R/T's. Dealer says it's not applicable to SP's. I don't see that clarified on the site, but I also don't see it as an incentive when you click that section of their site. Does it or doesn't it apply?

2. When you build a car, there is a pop up banner for "additional bonus cash" or something similarly named. I filled out the deal (as I was custom building a SP1320) and it said I had a $1,000 bonus. FCA sent me an email with special code. Dealer is also stating this isn't applicable to SP's. Again, can someone confirm if this is true or not?

3. Wife is ex-military. Separated 10+ years. When "veteran" status is selected, and discharge date is input, we get red error messages. Two of them. First says you must click the box that says something to the effect of "discharged within the past 12 months". If you click the box, then the year box goes red because the separation date is > 12 months. We tried this before and tried "retiree" option and it didn't verify. We emailed SheerID and asked for clarification. They said to use "veteran" status and assured us it would work. Not sure if the website has an error, or Dodge is simply saying the discount isn't eligible to veterans discharged >12 months (seems wonky).

4. Dealer is holding firm to sticker price. Others seeing any discounts? Not a large selection of sublime 1320's to choose from so shopping isn't very plentiful. Years ago I had a buddy hook me up with a family/friends code -- sure wish I could manage that again.

Good news is the car is sitting on the ground, and the dealer will trailer it to me so I don't have to drive to pick up. Also, they have made a good trade offer and overall the process has been fairly easy. Maybe I'm being shot straight, but it just seems like I keep getting jammed up with all discounts. I'm okay with the price, but just don't want to overpay.

Appreciate any guidance or help.

Also, has anyone used True Car buying service? We have access through Sam's Club and I think USAA as well. Not quite sure how it works as I've never used.

Both 1 and 2 can be answered with the offers are for 2022 model cars. There are no incentives outside of “special” 7.26% financing.

3. I am no help on.

4. A lot of dealers are asking over on these 2023 cars. A sublime 1320 is a very difficult find and they are willing to hold on to them. I couldn’t get any dealer to deal on ordering a 23 1320, and found a super low mile one at great price.

Did you order this car or just find one on the lot.

Those discounts simply don’t apply to Scatpacks. I tried that when I purchased mine and it wasn’t applicable.

My advice for you, is if the trade is right and they’re not over sticker, and you truly like the car, Grab it!

If I didn’t have my car, I thought about ordering a Sublime 1320 because that’s the coolest color on one of the coolest cars.

Good luck! MSRP is fair these days, anything below is cherries on top. I’m in the camp that won’t pay over so I was quite happy to get mine at sticker while doing well on my trade with a local dealer of mine!

Happy Shopping!

Man I feel like Bozo the Clown. Didn’t catch that #1 was limited to 2022. I had noticed they showed the financing only option. Which USAA beats @ 5.35%. When reading the fine print, it said R/T but as I was rereading after your post I saw where they clarified other models and it didn’t state R/T Scat Pack (had it actually applied to 2023). So #1 is dead.

In regards to #2 it applies to 2022 and 2023 models. It excludes SRT but not R/T Scat Pack unless we are playing finesse on words. Screen caps of the email I got sans my personal info and actual validation code so you can see what I’m seeing.

And I just got lucky with it being on the lot. I had been “dream building” on the Dodge site and then checking inventory and this one happened to pop up. I noticed it while it was in transit and called the dealer once it arrived on-site.

All 2022 Challengers near me are heavily discounted, 10% under MSRP. 2023 SP's are $10k+ over MSRP.

Don't see any 1320's in stock of any year.

To be plain, if you can get a fair trade and a Sublime 23’ 1320. jump! That’s a car I’d regret not buying, super limited, best color, and sweet Challenger!

Regarding USAA, etc....

We used AAA once. Not sure that was much of a benefit as the dealer showed us the AAA price(2% under invoice(whatever that means), but sold us 8% under invoice(it was a prior year new car). Seemed like a scam to us, but we went in saying if we get $X price we are going to buy...and the dealer was under our price so we bought.

No one wants to over pay, but in 2022 there were 334 1320's out of 55k SPs. Everyone expects a lower 1320 number this year.

Thanks for the additional info and vote of confidence. I’m normally more prepared when buying but this purchase caught me off guard. Every so often I go “dream build” one virtually and a few weeks ago I just became aware of the last call event, 1320 package and bringing back of sublime green! I’ve been looking for someone with allocation to do a custom order and this one showed up with all my wants and one extra item. It’s located a bit from me but the dealer is willing to trailer to me and trailer my trade back for a more than fair number.

I have zero intentions of letting her get away. They have marked as sold to me and started inking the deal. We are supposed to finalize in the AM which is why I had the influx of questions.

I will share more specifics and some pics soon.

Can anyone verify which Challengers this cash back offer is for and is it specific to an area of the US?? I'm in the Northeast and have seen it on dealers websites. This one was associated with a 2023 Challenger SPWB.

Ask the dealer, they will be the ones to apply it. The Dodge site is handing them out for Scat Packs and below. Just start shopping or building. There is a section to allow them to contact you. I have gotten 4 in the last 2 months, too bad they can only apply 1 per order.
The Scat Pack is an R/T, if the promotion says its available on all cars except SRT then it applies to Scat Pack.

Guess you will have to escalate it up the line if the dealer still refuses to comply.

This morning I decided to contact Dodge for an answer. Both consumers & dealers can contact the marketing team @ 800.227.0757 for clarification on rebates & incentive offers. It took about 30 minutes on the phone, but I got some answers.

1. Bonus cash offer of $2,000 doesn't necessarily exclude SP's, but it is location driven and apparently it's not available for my zip code. However, I do have special financing available, but as already mentioned I can beat that at my own bank. FYI, since I'm buying out of state and having the car shipped to me this spawned another question about which location ruled the incentive eligibility. My rep confirmed it is the zip code of where the car will be titled, which in my case matched what I told her when we initiated the call.

I might add, earlier someone noted this was only applicable to 2022 models and I thought my eyes played tricks on me. Nope, it applies to 2023 models. Screen shots below. FWIW, I can understand why the dealer may think SP's are excluded. Their disclosure terms (black image) identifies models somewhat specifically but leaves the R/T without the term "Scat Pack".

1a. When reviewing all info prior to calling Dodge, I noticed there was a "new" Memorial Day Special Events offer. Also for $2,000 and with slightly different terms. This one still has me confused because it isn't as limiting as the previous, yet the rep told me it was the SAME as the $2,000 bonus cash already mentioned above. It's hard to see because it's black on black, but I drew a red box around the disclosure which only states SRT models are excluded and delivery has to occur before 5/31/2023.

2. The $1,000 bonus cash with special code that was emailed to me is still active and eligible for SP, location, etc. I will have to convince my dealer to activate this on my behalf.

3. Military bonus is indeed limited to "new veterans" that was separated within the last 12 months or less. Effectively, my wife's service does not qualify for the discount. I find this particularly odd as she is eligible for so many other things. I understand and accept the terms are the terms, but it just seems like a "miss" on Dodge's part. If I were CEO, I would change that policy. So far Dodge isn't calling and offering the job though! 😜

Anyhow, just wanted to share what I learned today. Maybe it will help others on their journey. 😎

Didn't discuss on the 800 call this AM, but me and the dealer actually had a conversation about this potential incentive program.

Apparently it's up to $1,000 cash for retrofitting a vehicle for special handicap needs. I am glad it's available for those that need it but am very thankful I am ineligible to receive it. More details at the link below.

I’ll echo, good trade and a Sublime 1320? I’d jump. 1320s are as cool as any package offered this side of a Demon 170, imo.
And 7.26%? Oh that’s special alright. Hoo boy!

Stupid crazy eh. Rates are definitely on the rise, but are easily beaten with some looking. We were out of state last weekend for a graduation and my previous bank had 4.66%. It was a smaller regional bank and offered a 3% discount for auto draft from your checking account. Makes sense. They need cash inflow and get reserves coming in that way. Unfortunately we couldn't qualify because we no longer reside in either of the states they serve & require residence in for eligibility.

USAA got close @ 5.35%. If wife wanted to start a new account and shuffle funds I think we could get almost identical at Navy Federal CU but she like USAA. Well we both do, but that's $29.67 I could apply per month to upgrades, LOL.

Definitely not the 2% I got when I bought my truck several years back. However, it doesn't really move the needle much either in terms of overall affordability.

As you said, just thankful to find what I want and get what I consider to be one of the coolest packages & colors.

You got lucky waiting, someone else including another dealer could have grabbed it while in transit.
I once had a dealer reroute a car once the listed dealer agreed to part with it.

Spoke with the dealer earlier this evening and it sounds like the car is supposed to get loaded up and will be delivered to me tomorrow sometime.

I am excited and a little nervous too. This transaction started out smooth, but has had some hiccups that has me a little spooked.

1. No prior history with dealer. Found via the Dodge website after building the car and using the search inventory function to locate near or exact matches. Initially saw when it was "in transit". A week or so later I saw it was delivered and used the Dodge site to click through to the dealer site where it appears real photos with their dealership in the background was taken.

2. A good and bad thing I suppose. They hit the trade value on my truck with VIN only and some general questions. They were within $2k of my private sale goal. I talked them up another $1k. Later I sent photos so they had proof of the truck condition. Got about 90% of sticker, which I thought was more than fair. Seems nearly too good to be true.

3. We started conversations on Friday and did most the heavy lifting then. They were supposed to send over some paperwork on Saturday morning but it turned to afternoon and with other obligations it wasn't until Sunday AM we had a chance to review & sign. By then it had expired.

4. Communication responsiveness has really varied the past couple of days. The finance guy is really hard to reach which seems disturbing considering we are trying to wrap the deal up. Sales rep is more responsive. When I have actually spoken to each of them, they are very laid back & cool and assure me that all is good and the car is mine.

This evening, as we was discussing getting the car transported up, the following things came out:

a) They disclosed bringing my own financing would hurt the deal. They wanted to write the deal with their bank to collect backdoor perks/cash as they were not marking up over sticker and they claim is an almost zero markup car for them. I don’t buy that but moreso what torques me is the finance guy said no big deal when we discussed bringing my own financing and the rate differences. Perhaps this was the hurdle that slowed communications? The dollar difference isn’t a needle mover, just mostly principal. I realize I can and will absolutely refi the car.

b) She was disclosing mileage on the car so I'd know what to expect when it arrived. There are 121 miles. This struck me odd as previously she told me it was around 50 miles. I asked what happened as I thought the car was garaged the last few days. She said that was her best guess but she was wrong. It's only 71 miles difference so I'm not mad about the difference but was just genuinely curious how it grew so much.

c) Leading off the mileage conversation, she also said this was a dealer traded vehicle. They swapped a SPWB for this one with another "local" dealer. This really has me perplexed. When I saw the car on the Dodge site, it showed as "in transit" to the dealer I have been talking to. It then said it was delivered to the same dealer. When I asked about this, she said when the trades are approved between dealers that the Dodge site updates to which dealer. Maybe, I don't know, but it seems fishy.

d) I asked point blank if this was the same exact car I initially inquired about. She said yes. She sent me pictures of the car (no close ups of VIN) and the window sticker.

e) They didn't want to give the $1,000 off from the code that was emailed to me. They said they tried earlier and it was rejected. I asked them if they wanted the phone number. It sounds like they are writing the deal with the $1,000 off but I haven't saw the paperwork yet.

f) The transport cost is changing. Originally quoted at $350 for about 6 hours one way. Crazy cheap IMO. Apparently it's now $450.

g) Apparently they can't send another electronic contract to sign. I had bad phone reception and didn't fully catch the why. Something about it couldn't be changed which just seems wrong on so many levels. Apparently the driver is supposed to bring a paper copy with him for us to sign.
