I just started shopping for a new R/T, went through the custom build/order with the salesman, but he refused to print out the build sheet. Both he and his manager would only provide a window sticker for one 2023 existing in their system that was close to the one I specified.

Do they just want to clear their existing stock vs. order me one? The manager's explanation of why an order is virtually impossible was too convoluted to follow. I'll try another dealer tomorrow.

Are new orders or purchases of new existing 2022 or 2023 R/T's going for MSRP, above, or below currently?

I would recommend you find another dealer.

Perhaps the dealership in question has no allocation.

The story from the manager was that Dodge would open a 1 or 2 hour window for them to place orders, they would do as many as possible and have to wait for the next window. They were not interested in putting my order into the system. I don't know if that's the way the allocation system works.
Can't wait to se what the next dealer says tomorrow.

This is the sequence of events.
1. We created the build sheet.
2. I asked the salesman for a printout to take home.
3. He gave me a window sticker for a similar model in stock, missing a few things.
4. I asked the manager for the build sheet printout.
5. He brought me the POC for the car described by the window sticker. Now I have 2 documents I didn't ask for an 0 documents requested.
6. I departed the premises.

I'm currently determining if the offered unit is close enough to accept.

@Onemoremopar

Perhaps you can post up your city and state....and some details on what options you desire, and some of us can be additional eyeballs for you.

As chaotic as this final MY run will be....I’d certainly not hesitate to travel a decent distance in order to get what I wanted.

Not true. There are some dealers that will do orders at a discount on trims below the scat pack.
There is more pure profit in an ordered car as it’s usually delivered in 1-3 days after arriving. A lot car was floor planned and they made payments on it while it sat. Dealers play the public for being idiots who can’t get up and walk away or say no. I’ve bought at least three dozen new cars or more, it’s a business transaction not an emotional experience. I had five new car loans running at once in the past. Glad those days are behind me now, just the two new daily vehicles here.

Find another dealer. Mine in LA had what I wanted but was in transit on the train mid Jan 2022 and the sticker was posted on their site. Bought it online the same day for sticker $62K, said would arrive approx Feb 2022. Called me two weeks later the last Fri AM in Jan 2022 said it was there, went to the dealer and drove it home that afternoon. Traded in my 17 2SS Camaro, they matched the high value online offer. Was the best new car purchase ever. Do not get sucked in to typical dealer bull crap. Only buy it if they have it or is in transit on the train and you are willing to buy in transit, again for their posted sticker; everything else they say is crap. Good luck. FYI I added the stripes after purchase.

Just purchased a new R/T with "Shaker" option at $3000 below MSRP (Manual). The sales manager stated that 2023 models will be harder to get and they are allotted about 1/3 of the Challengers they were able to get last year.
Mine was a 2022 but didn't really care if I bought a 2022 vs 2023.
So far very happy with it and have had several faster Mustangs/Camaro's in the past. Of course the Mustang (GT)is faster but who cares. Last fast car comparable to this I had was a 2003 Mustang Cobra. More recently, Civics etc. and would drive the snot out of it. Probably more likely to get stopped in the Civic...
In this more fun to drive slow and ignore all of the "noise" of the wannabe street racers. Good Luck.

Very true. Steve White has a couple 2022 RTs listed for a little over 3k in rebates and discounts.

Even has a couple Scats for around $500 discounted.
People have a good experience with Steve White. They'll even deliver the car for free east of the Mississippi River. My buddy just ordered a '23 Scat Pack Widebody M6 in Sublime from them. It's in the process now. He ordered his current '22 Charger R/T from them as well, and had a stellar experience.

Even though they are remote from the OP's location, they are worth a look as there is a lot of good feedback from individuals who have dealt with them. I personally have only purchased parts, but it's always been a good experience dealing with Luke.

Cheers!

JD
