here is a link, dont see much fear in this thread

2011 challenger srt8 5.0 killer?
All I read was price tag and weight, I can't find any credible info. One person said the 392 that ran 12.44 was not stock bone stock when it was. I've seen the new 5.0 at the 1/8 by my house and not one can break 8.4 stock to back up the mid 12 runs said to be running. I have a 5.7 and I can tell you Im not scared of a 5.0 one bit, Wheel spin wheel spin wheel spin I said stock BTW no drag radials or tune, out the box is what is being said here, The new 392 can take em easy

saw an article today on the 2012 SS convertible...i thought it said sticker was $37k....thats just shocking that they can build a convertible for $6k less then our 392's.....it looked decent

a friend of mine said he saw TWO IE's for sale USED!!!!
one at a Ford dealer and one at a Chevy dealer....he took the time to go in and ask about them and why they were there...one was traded for a SS and one for a 5.0......not a good sign of quality...something had to be seriously wrong with those 2 IE's to be traded in within 1 month dont you think?

What dealers? I'm curious to know at what price they're listed.

Personally, I think the convertible Camaro only looks good with the top down. It's gonna run about 44k to get a convertible camaro SS with comparable options to that of the 392. Of course, you're getting a convertible which isn't too bad of a price I guess. It's still cheaper than the 392 but you're not getting some of the same performance upgrades that our cars have.

Who knows why someone would trade an IE within a month of purchase? It's possible that they bit off more than they could chew and decided to trade for a cheaper vehicle. I'll take my Challenger over the competition any day. Kudos to Ford and GM though. I have yet to get into a sparring match with a 5.0 but if/when I do it's going to be an exciting event win or lose.

Yep - Motor Trend has posted the quickest GT and Boss 302 ETs by a wide margin.

The 392 stick times seem to be pretty consistent: MT = 13.0, C&D = 12.9, R&T = 13.0. C&D trapped at 114 though, which indicates a strong running engine and possibly a lower ET with better traction.

I believe all of these publications use on-board electronics to measure distance, ET, and MPH. Not sure if they use a 1 foot roll-out. Not sure if they correct for DA. Call me old school, but what I trust is a time slip at the track. It will be a few months before we start seeing real 392 1/4-mile times at local tracks, hopefully along with GT and SS times on the same night under the same track/weather conditions.

R&T compared the 392 to the Shelby GT350 (there are conflicting specs in the article vs. the data sheet whether it was the 525 HP or 624 HP version). The 392 kept it pretty close out to 60 MPH and then it was game over and the Shelby walked away by 0.6 and 7 MPH (about 80 feet nose-to-tail at the traps - not even close).

Despite getting its a$$ handed to it on the dragstrip, I was pretty impressed to note the 392 outbraked the Shelby by 9 feet from 80 MPH and also virtually tied it in the slalom. And 0.9G on the skidpad from 245/255 is pretty impressive too. Overall a very decent showing from the 392 against a car almost 2X more expensive and a dedicated track weapon which is much smaller, way stiffer, and far louder. The author clearly preferred the 392 in the real world.

a SS convertible for the same price as a regular 392 is a Crazy good deal.......yes the SS is a bit slower and style isnt as good, but its decent....but ITS A CONVERTIBLE....same price!!!...its gonna hurt 392 sales when you can get a similar convertible for the same price!!!

i got 3 kids so id still go 392 all day long, but if i had only 2 kids or less its a no brainer...who doesnt want a convertible

as far as how it looks w/ the top up...ive never seen a convertible that looked good with it up..

I have to disagree. The 5.0 can run with a 392 maybe lose but will be a challenge. I have owned a 5.7 and a 5.0 GT believe me I think the 5.0 will take the 5.7.

I bet with a good driver it's a definite win over any R/T stock lol I've just seen so many of them run numbers that are not all that impressive, I thought after seeing YouTube videos that these were monsters and when I went to the track I was shocked at what I was seeing.. I love the 5.0 motor btw, first car ever learning how to drive stick was a 1989 5.0

IMO I think as a sales pitch, the other car dealers ie: ford and chevy pick up a used car and display it on there lot to downgrade the competion, so they can increase there sales.

Boss 302 walks SRT8 392 auto. At least initially. 392 reels him back in the higher gears but it looks like he's running out of room and has to let off.

No surprise here - I expected the Boss 302 to be as quick or quicker. A stock GT is about 4 tenths slower in the 1/4-mile so the 392 should walk a stock GT.

I can't tell from the video and the country of origin if it really is a Boss 302 and the graphics don't support the claim.

If it's a regular GT, it's not great news for 392 owners.

We don't know if it was a stock Mustang either. Back tires look seriously wide for one thing, which might suggest other mods have been done too. A simple tuner could add 25-30 HP. Not sure if the Mustang was an auto or a stick either.

While the auto 392 has the advantage out of the hole, once rolling the 392 manual has closer spaced ratios and less parsitic loss and just might win a roll-on against a 392 auto.

Anyway, the Mustang GT is no push-over and I wouldn't recommend taking a challenge from one lightly or you just might be looking at his tail lights.

after looking at the video again. It is definitely a GT. It does have aftermarket wheels but has stock exhaust. You are correct with just a CAI and SCT tune the car would be at 400+ rwhp. I have a GT with a tune and a K&N Drop in filter and it made 383 rwhp. I have since put a JLT intake on it and it seems stronger but dont know the HP. It will definitely put a whooping on my RT

392 vs Mustang GT/CS

Just posted this in the "Camaro mustang kills" thread but thought it fit here too. Happy hunting.

No [email protected] so there i was..... lol TODAY! I finally got to run with a new Mustang which I have surely been hunting for since my last camaro snack in an earlier post on this thread. Real cool guy with an awesome car so this should be both informative and entertaining. First off we all need to make sure we all do our research and identify badges closely. The black 2011 Mustang California Special is a 5.0 with no 5.0 badges. It only says GT/CS in matte black which is hard to see at 60 so dont run around thinking you're about to dust off a V6 or something. All good, my spidey sense went off so i ensured to respect the competition. So as we got on it a lil' there was too much traffic. He rolled down the window and gave me some props on the 392 as he hadn't seen one before. I asked if he wanted to hit a backroad. He was cool with it. We finally caught a light and as we smashed it, this chick pulls out in front of him trying to beat her red light and he almost bit it. Very lucky us. We catch the next light and I got the jump of the line and I definitely got him. I got him by about a car link. We pulled over because we were both equally curious. That car is awesome top to bottom. I mean I still take the 92 any day because boy do i have WAAAAY more space and comfort. But I still dig it. I also saw that he was rockin' a CAI as well. So we chatted it up and as we rolled out and he asked for another shot. No prob. We do a rolling start at about 20-25 and boy did he dust me! (do keep in mind he had a stick i have an auto) but he whooped me anyway, no excuses. I would say a 3/4 car link and he def got the jump. We got to the next light and gave it one more go. This time I set my performance pages for the 1/4 mile time. I will let the video attached tell the rest, it was taken from his car and he was cool enough to send it to me. He did get the jump but the 92 came back strong. Head to Head at the end, 12.82 at 114mph. We both had a blast and pretty much went 1-1-1. So as someone mentioned earlier there is always factors like reaction and such. I had an auto with more power but heavier, he had a lighter stick with CAI. There will always be pros and cons. wish i had videos of all three but at least we got one (sorry for the quality). I know Im ordering a dash cam though!. The added torque did shine thru by the way. Need more of you to post your exploits or go have some!!

By the way I invited him to CF2 so we can get him on the track!

He did get the jump in that video, but you reeled him in good (and won). Nice.

I'm thinking your traction control was on? Looked like you dogged it out of the hole and then pulled even when the ESP allowed the engine to make full power.

I was expecting to hear your tires smoking at least some, but all I heard was his burn-out through half of 1st gear.
