Can’t have nice things apparently…

I was parked, just ordered dinner, sitting across the street at a restaurant from my car when we are interrupted by a huge crash sound. We look over to see this…

Drunk/high as **** driver came across both lanes and swiped mine and totaled her car plus another. She was arrested on the spot and got a DUI.

3 months in to ownership, 4k miles. It’s fixable but there is some serious rear suspension damage as well. We live out in the country and drove into town for a concert and dinner. So much for a fun evening. Still went to the show (Nikki Lane) but haven’t been able to stop thinking about this car. Pretty heartbreaking to be honest

Sorry to see your baby in that condition…I know if something like that happen to mine I’d get it fixed and then get rid of it. I would never be able to fully enjoy it again.

That sucks, plain and simple. The only thing I think about is if it's totaled, at least it's likely you can get a replacement. Next year we won't have that option :(

Read the license plate frame on the Nissan.
Kind of fitting to the situation.

Sorry that this happened to your Challenger ! I can imagine how upset you are, but at least this didn't happen when you were driving and got hit by the drunken idiot! Keep us posted on your situation and if your Challenger can be repaired or has to be replaced.

Sorry to see what happened to your car. I would start looking for a replacement even if it is fixed. Good luck 👍

Obviously, I never want to have a damaged car, but its one thing to live with the consequence of your own actions, but very frustrating when it is totally random and you had zero responsibility. Best of luck getting it fixed.

Especially in "no laws enforced" Oregon.

Sorry to hear that - that's a very busy area in SE side - I used to live in Woodstock neighborhood, not very far from there

If there is any fortune in this, it's that she was caught, and some sort of justice will be served. Not enough to you and us, but it really would have been worse if it was a hit and run situation.

Hope it works out for you. Hope she has insurance.

What was crazy is that the officer on the scene told me the jail wont take her if the airbag goes off....for whatever reason they deny admission for people with all sorts of things, the cops have no say in it. But since this girl had her airbag go off, she wont go to jail, probably spent the night at the precinct. But her life isnt going to be great for awhile.

Thankfully we weren't in the car and no one was injured.

Yup, this was on 21st, a few blocks south of Division

FWIW - I live out in Sandy, OR. We were just in town for dinner and a concert.

That’s the main thing is you and your family are not hurt. Car can be replaced.

Make sure to look into diminished value after the repairs are done, assuming it's not totaled, and that she has insurance. Sorry this happened, though, it's stressful seeing this and then waiting months for repairs.

So, if an airbag (hers assumedly) went off, she does not spend time in jail? Can someone explain this to me? A drunk driver hits two cars...sure, her airbag would go off. And because it does, she does not go to jail?

What does that have to do with the cost of tea in China?
My guess is that the jail won’t take in arrestees that may have hidden medical issues…aka trauma. The force required to deploy air bags is certainly enough to cause injury…albeit self made injury in this case. I’ll bet the jail requires a clearance from a physician prior to intake. It’s a liability thing…

I recall when I was working we would be called out to the scene if the police deployed a Taser. By policy, they could not be simply brought to jail if arrested. They had to have the darts removed by a physician and cleared before incarceration.
