I've been meaning to replace these forever but I am very lazy. But as you can see they are gross looking now as the plastic has faded to almost white. I want to replace them, preferably with metal ones, black stainless steel to be specific, but anything is better that these at this point. I've tried searching but I haven't really seen what I'm looking for. I think the main problem is i don't know the correct name for them, if there is one. They don't have to be identical to this, just similar.

Also, is there any good way to tell what size this bolt is just from looking at it? I could measure it if that helps. I assume it's standard and not metric. Or do i just have to take one of the old caps to a hardware store to test and find a size that fits so i know what to get. Thanks

Given that they are after market louvers, I would bet the bolt is metric.

I really can't help you with your search, but if this was my car, I would buy stainless steel nuts. You then spray paint them black, along with those washers, and I'll bet it isn't that noticeable.

I used some metric acorn nuts when I had mine installed. Don’t remember the exact size. I bought one of those cheap multiple size sets off amazon and one worked. They come chrome/coated but you could definitely make them black.

Most motorcycle accessories have different size nut and bolt caps including Harley. A friend of mine years ago did his bike up with all different size spent bullet casings. Cut them to what size he needed and used silicone.

Yeah, dome head, acorn. Nylon or stainless, most black steel are black oxide (flat/matte), I see gloss, but seems to be UK, and shipping is more expensive. You'll need the metric size (M2, M4, etc.) For instance

thanks man. dont know why i had such a hard time finding them. These should work as long as they are deep enough. Mine arent just to protect the bolt. they actually help hold the louvers down. I'll probably figure out the size i need and then just order the black steel ones from the UK. Seems weird thats the only place they make steel ones.

There are steel ones available in the US, but all I could find in black were black oxide coating. This is a rough looking, matte finish. I did find black chrome ones, and as SRT8 Mike mentions, many motorcycle customization sites have domed and high domed nuts in various finishes, but most are listed as being a fairing set for xx brand, etc., rather than by individual size.

Once you know the size, doing a specific search will be easier

I was incorrect as far as the size that mine were. They were not metric. They were 8-32. Here is the kit number in the picture:

I have the same Louvers, same 'white nut' issue...When I replace them they will be 'locking' (nylock) acorns cause I do not want star or lock washers in there...JMO
