So, the other day I turned right from a red light and got on the throttle a little bit, I was already pointed straight and there didn't seem to be any tire slippage or squirrleyness that happened, but there was this almighty bang that felt mechanical, maybe something to do with the transmission. The traction control and abs lights came on for about 20 seconds then went back out. Anyways, after that I had no power at all to the wheels. I would push the pedal and the engine would rev to about 1k and then drop back down, the engine didn't quit, it was still running, just idling.

I pulled over to the side of the road, put it in park, back in drive, and tried again. Nothing. After shutting the car down completely and restarting it, I was able to move again, the check engine light came on but my scan tool wasn't reading any codes, and when i cleared codes, the light went off and has yet to come back on after 200 miles or so of driving.

Does anyone have any idea what caused this to happen? I was given the opinion that maybe it backfired through the intake because I gave it to much gas, to soon, after driving 140 miles or so on the highway. Any help would be appreciated.

Had this happen to me for the first time tonight, without the "bang" noise. Rolling onto the "on" ramp in autostick, floored it and shifted to first.

Nice rolling launch, took off strong, lost traction and the engine rev'd quickly, then lost power. Engine light was on after the restart.

I cycled through the on/off three times, and on the fourth restart, the Engine light went off. Car is running fine, stronger than ever.

It was only 23F out, and I think that I hit some really slick and cool pavement when it lost traction and quickly rev'd up.

All seems Ok now.

Alright, so this happened again, this time I did get on it a bit and there was no loud bang but I did lose power again (on a pretty major street as well...), check engine light is on but my intune wont read the code so I may take it to O'Riley's or a dealership tomorrow and see if they can read it. Does anyone know why this is happening or how I can stop it from happening? (without driving like a grandma?)

True. Now. But he said it showed no codes when he first tried reading them after the MIL. Which is odd. I know some codes auto clear after a restart but I wouldn't think anything that lead to limp mode would reset (on its own I mean).

Mike
Limp mode will reset on its own. Happened to me at the drag strip. I over reved it and it went into limp mode. I did not know what happened. They pushed me off the line and I shut it down but started it up again and it ran fine. I told them I was ready to run and pulled up and went down the 1/4 and no more CELs or problems.

Happened to me for the first time today during data logging. Went WOT in drive from a stop, tires spun and smoked and BANG. Alarm chime, check engine code, and car wouldn't shift (engine remained on). Drifted to side, restarted, drives fine other than check engine light that can't be read or reset by my Intune.

Did you wait for the trans to warm up? If you beat on it shortly after a cold start, limp mode will step in to try and protect the trans.

Btw-if you don't mind me asking, where in Arkansas are you located?

Are there any mods done to the car? Exhaust? Tune? Have you gone in and personally modified an existing tune? Throttle body?

From what I understand, limp mode should retain power and let you drive away-slowly. When I see guys go into limp mode at the drag strip, they shut the car off, open the door to completely de-energize the electronics, then start the car again and drive off.

Limp mode. Shut the car off and restart and your good go.

Sorry, just saw this...for some reason my email notifications about this particular thread ended up in my spam folder.

The first time it happened was after about 200 miles of driving, so I hope it was warmed up by then, and most of the time I'm located in Fayetteville, I'm enrolled at the university there.
