Challenger Ride to Cisco, UT Vanishing Point Set June, 2023

I am formally proposing a road trip/meet up in June 2023 at Cisco, UT. Recently, member PCFilms2 posted pictures of his road trip that passed through the ghost town of Cisco, Utah. It has inspired me to try to organize a ChallengerTalk meet up at that location.

I think this is a cool idea since it is the final year of production for the modern Challenger. The iconic white 1970 Challenger R/T from the movie Vanishing Point was from the first model year. I envision a photo of 15-20 modern Challengers surrounding a replica 1970 white Challenger R/T honoring the heritage of the Challenger, and its many colors and trims. This scene on the somewhat barren landscape of eastern Utah appeals to me…

Cisco is somewhat centrally located in the country and could be a nice waypoint on a road trip. There are numerous locations of interest nearby to visit and enjoy. Moab, Arches NP, Canyonlands NP, Capitol Reef NP, Bryce Canyon NP, and Zion NP are a few of those great attractions. If you’ve ever thought you’d like to see these places this could be a good excuse.

Vanishing Point put the Challenger on the map in some circles. It would be a great adventure to meet up in the middle of nowhere and be part of an iconic photo op. The Challenger is a great cruiser and road trip car to start with, and it just simply looks great too. They are meant to be driven. The west has some great roads and sights to be experienced. If you are interested, post up. All ideas are welcome. If we get enough interest we may be able to pull this off. Targeting the week of June 5-11 at this point, but that is flexible too.

Thanks for reading.

That sounds like a great idea. I would love to see that part of the country. So many photo ops there.

Maybe send a pic and a message of thanks to the folks in Brampton for their hard work, provided we get a good turnout and an excellent photo.

I definitely want to be part of that. Count me in. (y)

I love the idea and think I would be able to make it work.

I think it would be cool also. You could probably have people meet up along the way and have several caravans headed that way. I'd have to see if I could trade a couple of days off to make it work with my schedule but probably could make it work. I'm off every other week but my days off are Thursday through Wednesday.

I'm in, lets get Dodge to fund it, for last great hurrah, with many burnouts, cool DJ music and naked chicks on mini bikes.

that would make the ghost town less ghostly :D but maybe somewhere close... something like they did for Dodge Rocks Gas Monkey with hellcat drags, viper drift car rides, Motley Crue in a bar etc.

I think the caravan thing is a great benefit to do. Not only is it an eye catcher on the highway, but it is a security blanket too.

Bye the way, if anyone knows an owner of a white ‘70 Challenger, pass this on to them. And, if you know Barry Newman, invite him along! Haha

Wonderful idea and I hope it materializes for everyone. It's not an easy task to put something like that together. Last minute cancellations, bad weather, excuses, etc... I'll you right now it is too hot for us in June and we will be going in late April or early May. As much fun as it sounds, I'm out. I won't be the one to disappoint folks.
I've been on the other side of the situation coordinating simple local drives through the mountains here. Too many personalities and too much complaining. My last try involved a sweet Porsche and Corvette combined run. For those that showed up, "You are going too fast'" "Bad route. Too many rough patches and loose gravel". "When can we pee?" "Is there anyplace to eat near here?" "I'm running low on fuel". Stupid stuff and it's like having kids in the car. Hopefully Challenger owners are above this but I wouldn't put money on it.

I already have a commitment for that time frame but should that change I may be interested. Sounds like a great idea!

I love this idea and really hope to see it happen! The dates out there proposed are good but I’d ask either the week before or the weekend of the 11th of June if your wanting to aim for that. The only reason is there is a huge all Mopar show here in Minnesota the first weekend of June and we always go and help out with various things. Just putting it out there! As another posted here, it’s definitely a large undertaking but with the right person and some organization it’ll be great. I think most Mopar people are a bit easier to deal with than Porsche and Corvette people. Lol.

For those who might be interested (and didn't already know), I created a roadtrip route based on this movie a few years ago: Vanishing Point Route.

Thanks for all the comments. I do have some experience organizing things, and I hear what you’re saying. I think it’s the remoteness of this meet there won’t be people complaining about the little things. I think the type of people that are willing to travel some distance like from California, Minnesota, Texas, Kentucky, and wherever else aren’t the type to whine. Also, this is a meet up and disperse type thing. There is a really nice pizza place in Moab for those willing, but that would be the end of it. I’ll put this out there…”This is a no strings attached event. No expectations, No commitments, No worries” If you want to come that’s great. If you can’t make it, that’s fine too.”
I’m hoping for a good turnout to 1. Meet fellow Challenger enthusiasts, 2. Create some memorable photos and movies, 3. get out there and visit some of the most beautiful sites in our country. Those three things are a great reason to do this. I hope all of you will consider it.

Lets fine tune the date to the weekend of June 11. I wouldn’t want to conflict with ant Mopar meeting anywhere.

I am in! It sounds so fun just as a road trip, then throw in my favorite movie site along with a bunch more challengers and good people. You’re right as there are some amazing sights out there! June 11th sounds good to me!

Let’s see, I got a White R/T and my starting point is Denver based on the odds making it to San Francisco is just like the movie, slim to none…. Makes me want to go even more ☠ Just one problem is that I have never did Speed “Hitlers Skitttles” and would take a little longer and would require more stops for me due to Mrs.Gonzo’s little bladder 😖

So barring crazy lifesounds like a plan, count me in!!!!

While I have a lot of ideas swirling around, this one is high on the priority list. PapaD suggested sending a “Thank You” card to Brampton and all of the technicians that have a hand in creating these amazing cars. Auburn Hills too to those that have designed such a great car. Showing a bunch of cars and enthusiasts that have taken to the road to proudly showcase their cars would send a message that I think would be appreciated.

Agree with you guys on that. I think it’d be awesome, especially at the location of the movie that really helped make and keep the Challenger popular over so many years. Great idea.
