Hello everyone, i cleaned by engine bay, first time in 30k miles, i was nervous about whether i should leave the car run or shut it off, it was a 2 mile trip to the car wash self serve bay so the engine did not heat up all that much.

i have an 09 hemi RT.

My nerves were rattle but i propped the hood up turned the engine degreaser option on. and sprayed the entire engine all over the fuse box, the stock intake the pcm everything.........

i let it sit for about 5 minutes then turned on the high pressure rinse and let the high pressure mist rinse everything. i got impatient and went full blast! after i was finish i wiped up the excess water, put it in neutral and back it to the vacuum stall and suck up any residual water. finall held my breath and started the car..........

the car ran fine..... no issues no CEL's nothing..... at all.... i wish i took a before picture but here is the after picture!!

question

not sure if this is the right place but i noticed when cleaning there appears to be some kind of leak around where the intake manifold meets the engine block......

this runs all the way to the back of the engine, its not terribly back but is it something to be concerned about? what causes it? too much heat, i tried to tighten the screws a little which i assume tighten the manifold to the block.... any ideas?

yea it feels pretty good to have a clean bay, often people ask me to pop the hood... and im kinda embarrassed to show a dusty dirt laden engine. one thing i would like to mention is the the intake is from an srt8. in order to put my catch can on i needed to change the intake... the rt's have some stupid reservoir the prohibits placement of the catch can..... i need a z bracket because that thing looks like a pain in the ass to unscrew from under neath...

anyone have any ideas on how to add some shine to the plastic?? i read to be aware of certain chemicals eating plastics... can anyone recommend a product?

I have oil seepage in the same area on the drivers side. It's leaking somewhere from the plastic manifold and also pools in some of the nooks over time. I have heard of a few folks having this issue.

As for dressings, I prefer 303 Aerospace Protectant lightly misted on the plastics and then wiped dry with a towel. It leaves a nice factory-like finish (I don't like a greasy look). ....there are a ton of products to choose from however depending on what you are looking for.

Adam's Polishes has In & Out Spray Dressing and Super VRT - Adam's Premium Tire & Trim Care Products. I just started using these on my my outside plastic trim and the engine compartment and so far am very happy as they do not make the pieces shiny and wet looking but they bring the pieces back to a rich darkness. If you want to see these in action then watch the video by clicking on the In & Out Spray to get to the detail page and at the bottom there are a couple of vids including one of them doing the engine compartment.

I would have been too worried about those coil pack wires to do that at a car wash facility. I'd feel more comfortable doing it in the drive way with a bucket and mitt. My luck I'd be that guy that had to get a tow truck at the car wash to pickup the car cuz I wanted to wash the engine bay.
