A question about the best average tire pressure.I realize many aftermarket tires have different maximum tire pressure ratings but how many lbs of pressure should you stay below the maximum that the tire is rated for?

For instance,I have the Nitto Invo tires that are rated at 50lbs maximum pressure. What's a good pressure to inflate them at for our 4000lb cars that will ensure proper performance and wear?

Also, would the optimum lbs of pressure change if using nitrogen over air?

Pressure is pressure. Doesn't matter what is used. However, nitrogen is more stable under tire temperature fluctuations and holds the PSI setting much better than air. In my opinion, using it is a bit overblown because of the cost. The air we breathe is already around 85% nitrogen. The optimum pressure would depend on tire size, and available volume to fill it. The 50 PSI you mention would be close to the burst pressure of the tire. I would think 35 PSI should be good.
