I have faith in my Dodge service department BUT wanted to see if any new 392 owners have experienced similar problems to mine. I picked up my new car a couple of weeks ago. When I turn off the car and open the driver's door and remain seated in the car, I hear popping sounds that seem to be coming from the speaker system. The pops begin about 2 minutes after shutting down the car and they are spaced about 15 seconds apart. There are at least 20 pops that occur in a row. Fortunately my service technician was able to hear the popping and is presently trying to contact Dodge for possible resolution. On another note, my HomeLink system is inoperative.

Ditto on both points.

The popping had me going insane!! Glad to hear I'm not alone. I'll verify that mine is similar to yours.

I figured out that Homelink just isn't compatible with my Garage Door :-(

I'm still only getting roughly 12.5mpg with 60% freeway driving and when I'm at a complete stop I sometimes smell a very slight gas smell.

Need to bring it in for service.

Still the funnest car I've ever had the pleasure of driving!!

I have 500 miles on the car to date and have averaged about 19 mpg. with mostly country road driving. I have not noticed a smell of gas. Good luck to you, iskondi.

was never able to figure where this sound is coming from, sounds like speaker sub to me, dont know if your dealer is going to either. I had this same popping sound after I shut my car off on my 2007 srt8 charger and I have it now on my 2010 srt8 challenger, now you have it on your 2011 392! good luck on that, hope they find something, dont see it having any kind of serious affect on your car, just enough to drive you crazy, but I got over it. good luck with that and keep us posted what your dealer says. congrats on the new 392

There's a thread on the forums here about the powered sub not turning off right away. It was a problem on the older Challengers as well.
If you find the thread, it should give you some ammo when you hit the dealership up.

I have the exact same popping issue and I was wondering what the heck it was. So please let me know what the dealer says.

Additionally, since we're on the subject I took a 400 mile road trip last week to lower Alabama and I proceeded to open it up. Half way there the engine light came on. Long story short I took it to the nearest dealer once I got to my destination because it would not go off. They said it was a stored fault code from the O2 sensor. Service reset it and said there were no other diagnostic issues. On the way back up (400 miles again) i hit 140-150 and the damn light came on again. Figured I would schedule another appt but a day later the light went off. So obviously this has something to do with mass air flow and maybe during prolonged duration. Just wanted to either inform or confirm the issue with the masses.

My homelink does work effectively though.

The only problem that I noticed was with the headliner. Around the rear window you could see the foam padding a little bit. I was going to have it fixed but figured I would leave it be for now. Besides, I just got my windows tinted and you can't see it at all. It's unfortunate that you spend 47 plus thousand for a car and it has defects. Dodge needs to really step up there quality control as well as some of the other car manufacturers. I know the Camaro has had similar problems.

I had the same popping noise occasionally when I had my 6.1 SRT8. I've only heard it a couple of times in my 392. It's not a big deal to me.

I would love to know the average mpg everyone is seeing to pass it onto the dealer but I feel like by just over 1k I should be seeing a helluva better average unless I'm driving the piss outta the car, which I'm only doing once in awhile :))

Popping noise is your trunk monkey!! :D
As mentioned, a common problem/quirk in previous model years as well. Was sure there was a thread with a fix, can't find it for the life of me.

Homelink. Betting you've got a "rolling code" opener. Different set of instructions than standard single frequency openers. Involves hitting the button on the remote & Homelink, then the "learn" button on the the actual opener mechanism (not the remote) & Homelink button multiple times.

Well that's lame. Just programmed my '05 Trailblazer the other day for practice in anticipation of my 392. All for naught maybe. Liftmaster?
mine is the most expensive garage opener that Home Depot had....it could be a lift master....belt drive is all i remember

im taking my car in to be worked on in 2.5 hours since im off/slow today....hoping to get the blower working at least...i worry about fixing my back headliner...the thought of a mechanic sitting on my white seats w/ greasy hands makes me wonder if its better to just accept it being crooked...every time i look in the rearview i see it 3/4"-1" crooked and i think $50,000

HomeLink only works if you following the instructions in the manual exactly, especially if there is a rolling code. It took me a while to get mine programmed because I was skipping one step which wasn't too clearly explained IMO.

I also had an O2 sensor CEL. The SRT technician replaced the sensor and the CEL came back on 5 minutes later. So he took the harness pin connector apart again and traced all the wires back. Apparently there was some salt spray inside the pin connector and it was causing enough bleed-through from an adjacent pin (which is 12V) to throw a CEL. He said the O2 sensor voltage output is really low and it was stupid of Dodge to put a 12V pin right next to the 02 sensor pin.

Anyway, he thoroughly cleaned the entire harness with electrical contact cleaner, re-cleaned the harness on the new O2 sensor, applied dielectric grease between the two pins in question, and bingo - no more CEL.

i spent 1 hour looking/learning this morning and solved a few of the problems

to get the nav screen to dim at night in auto mode you have to turn the dashboard dial down 2 clicks..easy fix

homelink issue solved: had to use learn button on opener itself...clicker method doesnt work (but did work on my new chevy)

rear head liner crooked over back window: i can feel a 1" gap when i run my hands on the back of the headliner where it meets the window..one side has a 1" gap and the other 1/2 has a 1/4" gap...so something needs to be snapped in

the dashboard lights light up about 1/2 of what they should be and the blower is still dead no matter what i do....hoping the dealership will handle the 3 issues today while i wait....its possible they are all quick fixes.

im going to give instructions for NO TEST DRIVE....when i used to bring my old 5.0 mustang in everything would be thrown to the back of the car when it was returned to me...they were beating on it...175 miles on the OD, so no beating on it please!

One: The "popping" of the speakers has been going on since I got my first SRT8 (a Charger SRT8) back in '06. Strangely though, I've only heard of it happening to cars equipped with the SRT Option Group II. My '09 Challenger SRT8 w/o Option Group II never did this.

Two: I had the same issue with my universal garage door opener. I followed all of the instructions in the user's guide. I even called the Tech center and they couldn't get it to work either, until...

I did everything in the user's guide up until it says "press the programmed HomeLink® button twice (holding the button for two seconds each time)."

Instead of this, press and hold the Homelink® button until your garage door activates. Plain and simply... My garage door system is the "rolling code" kind and using any other method does not work - for my garage.

Good luck.

the dealership tapped on the blower motor and it started up...its a bit noisy (tick sound while it runs)...they ordered a new blower for me

the headliner issue: they said its preformed and cannot be adjusted...they can get a new one,but it may fit worse....they recommend leaving it....hard to accept a fit flaw for $50k...no one will ever notice it and im 50/50 on leaving it...i will probably take it to another dealer for their opinion

the dash board brightness....they cant say if its right or wrong..they agree its dim, but want to wait until they get a 2011 in to compare...
