Do you think we should start a sticky with dealers by State that are charging outrageous mark-up over MSRP on the HellCat Challenger? That would give board readers great information for which dealers not to even visit when they want to buy other Dodge or Jeep products down the line. It shows the character of the dealership.

Can we list them without reprisal? Or, should we just list the more positive experience and name dealers that were accommodating. For Hellcat now it looks like MSRP at best. In the future I expect that to change, but the positive dealers I would expect to also change positively while the negative dealers I would expect would continue to attempt to price gauge customers.

Building the car on the Dodge site even though I now know I will not even attempt to purchase a Hellcat for myself until six months to nine months from now has lead to interesting conversations between Dodge dealers and myself. I'll give you one example yesterday that happened to me.

I get a call. This is the internet sales manager from XXXXXXXX Dodge dealer in NJ. I want to check on your inquiry. I mention that I am interested in a specific build for a Hellcat Challenger. She says let me call you back on that because we have a Hellcat here (I know there are not any within 250 miles of me right now). I say I want a specific color and model. It seems to bypass her. She calls me back 10 minutes later. Yes, we are getting a Hellcat in. I do not know what color or transmission it will have. I need a 10K deposit if you are interested. I ask what the price is just for amusement. The internet gal tells me price is 20K above MSRP. I just laugh and tell her to call me back when the price is 1% below invoice or better. I could name the dealer and we all could name dealers like that if it makes sense for a future sticky. We could call it Dodge Dealers of Shame!

I'd say NO. If you don't like what price they are charging you can buy elsewhere. If no one bought these cars at inflated prices they wouldn't put dealer markups on them. Obviously people do so they will get that price. We still live in a free enterprise system so they can ask an inflated price all day long and if no one pays it they are stuck with it.

THis isn't the first car nor the last car that will have a dealer markup on it.

The other thread listed good dealers wih good being defined as MSRP for now.

So, first one Deconzen was the dealer in NJ where I had the conversation with the internet manager asking for 10K down on a car color and transmission / makeup unknown with a 20K above MSRP. They did, I am just posting it. I know I will not consider them for any Dodge, Jeep or Chrysler purchase.

The reason for posting dealers like this is to save guys out there who may try to waste their time with them. Best to try any other dealer because we know Deconzen's business practices!

This is a good idea, but not because the price they charge for their vehicles. It's up to buyers to do their homework before they make a purchase.

What is needed is a thread for dealerships who perform shoddy service. This is always an unknown until after the work is performed unless one knows someone who has already suffered at the hands of a bad service department. It would also be a good idea to have a second thread to recognize those dealerships who provide quality service.

"Market adjustment"? Is that a legit thing?? I don't think I've ever seen a dealership actually advertise such a thing. You see them advertise discounts all of the time, but actually advertise how they are charging way MORE than the MSRP?!?! Does this really happen frequently?

Admittedly, I don't go car shopping very often (I tend to keep my cars long-term), so maybe I'm just completely unaware that this is a "normal" thing....

But, but, it says “No Brainer!” You stroll in, pay the price including markup, drive home. See how easy?

It's even easier to tell them to pack sand if they won't haggle. Everyday the vehicles remain on their lots costs them money. There is nothing easier than walking away from a bad deal...

The 1st dealer i went to said they "might" add up to 10,000! over msrp when it arrives! I thanked them for their time and went to my local dealer. I was promised "no more than msrp". With the top of the line "flagship" models it seems to be the way it goes. Maybe I was taken advantage of but I don't think so. It is the 1st time I have paid msrp. (Also the 1st time buying a top of line car!) A loaded hellcat redeye! Can't wait till it arrives and don't care if I paid a bit to much! OK, maybe I care a little.

The full MSRP plus ADM fad comes and goes. When everyone is doing this then I just wait a year or two before I buy. But usually I have been able to find at least one dealership that's hungry enough to negotiate. I have never in all my 75 years paid anything close to MSRP. I try hard to get down as close to true dealer cost as I can and am willing to invest a LOT of time working dealerships against each other.

I agree with Gila Hemi that there really isn't a need to list price gougers here. It takes one e-mail to find out what a dealership's policies and practices are so it's not a huge time suck to quickly eliminate the places that are opportunistic creeps.

What I care about is a list of blatantly dishonest dealerships or those that have incompetent service departments. Also input from owners who have horror stories to tell about something that went bad and the dealership refused to make it right.

Of course you can also get this sort of information on Yelp which is where I go to check out any business before I even think about forking over any dough there.

I'm currently having difficulty finding a responsive, customer oriented dealership that is within a 300 or so mile radius of Portland, Oregon. I'm very happy with my R/T shaker but I'm thinking I'd like to upgrade to a Hellcat before they go away after next year. I've contacted or at least looked at most of the dealerships from Seattle to KFalls to Walla Walla and not finding anyone that is especially interested in making a sale. Even if I was stupid enough to go for the MSRP + $10k scam I get the impression that I'd still be treated like crap. And if I was that dumb perhaps I should be.
