Wife and I were at our dealers lot and noted that the Jazz Blue Chally was sitting there brand spanking new 2015...WITH ONE NOTED EXCEPTION.

As my wife noted "That would drive me crazy."

The color on the body of the car does not match the front cover and the rear bumper cover....the blue is deeper. We looked at every angle with the sun, and I even wiped the car. Lets just say weird is an understatement.

So my impression is that the front and rear covers are being prepped, primed and painted elsewhere from the car and then added to it. Result...the paint did not match perfectly as it should.

You guys at Dodge need to fix this......this is probably why this particular brand new car was in the back. :notallthere:

Sublime is the same way....granted it may not be as noticeable (I can see it on my Sublime when I have all of the flourescent lights on in the garage, but can't see it outside in "natural" light).

It's a slight difference in shade between the parts of the body that are metal, and those that aren't metal (on my car, the fascia and hood have a slightly different shade to them).

Once I noticed it on my car, I started looking at other brands and noticed the same thing...and on certain colors it's more noticeable than others.

They are being prepped and painted elsewhere for all colors, nothing new and they've had some pretty bad mismatches in the past but the two Jazz blue's I saw looked good to me.

Bumpers, mirrors, door handles and maybe rear spoiler all supplied to Brampton by vendors and come in pre-painted; some cars and colors match better than others.

In some cases it may because paint reacts with plastic parts and the color may change a slight bit, on metal the paint stays it's real color.

The bumpers on my 2015 Jazz Blue car match really well with the rest of the body panels.

Now my 2009 Deep Water Blue car the front bumper is slightly different than the fender but the rear is good.

I guess some cars have better matching bumpers than others. Just buy a car that has a better match and pass on the ones that don't.

GWE

My 2011 GWE is the same way. My front and rear are slightly lighter than the painted sheet metal. I learned to live with it and I have never had anyone say anything to me about it. I hear a lot of "cool car man" or "nice car man". Never a "hey your car is different shades of green" LOL. There is another GWE in town and his is the same way. Still looks good going down the road. Just my 2 cents.

Every car I've ever seen is this way, Dodge, Toyota, Honda, BMW, Chevy etc.... it's just more
obvious with some colors than others. The paint has flex additives for the covers that's not in
the rest of the paint and it slightly alters the color.

I think we figured out the problem.....I'll check and if wrong re-post.

The plastic parts are either Grey or Black and not basic white, if they are using another primer that is dark such as Grey or black there is the problem and were betting that is what is happening.

This may be what is causing the paint to suffer some inconsistent color matches on the plastic. If the parts were white and using Sikkens white or light Beige the colors would be perfect.

This TorRed has a nice match... Land vehicle Vehicle Car Red Fender

You can see it pretty well in this shot of my car.
I just consider it a characteristic of the model.
40 years from now. restorers will be working hard to replicate the "Factory Mis-match" on these cars.
In the mid 70's when Corvette first went to rubber bumpers, they actually were respraying some bumpers as they were loading them on the truck trying to get them to match. That was the worst period ever for Corvette.

Yep, this issue has been around over the various Challenger years. Some colors seems worse than others, but even then, some match perfectly, some are close, and a few are well, not very close.

My "DY" was a little off on the front from the factory. Had to be just in the right light to see it. I had some paint peeling around the "smile", and the dealer removed the nose, prepped, and repainted the "DY". It came out as perfect of a match as one could ask for.

Just part of the process, as whenever parts are painted "off site", there's always a chance of some mismatch on any color, some of the time.

I have a '13 Jazz Blue, and all of the panels are a perfect match. I bought some PPG base coat/clear coat to paint my Saleen spoiler, and it also came out as a perfect match. I've painted a lot over the years, and PPG always seems to match, cheaper paints, not so much.
