Am I the only one that thinks of an old Eddy Murphy routine when I read "Sparks shooting from my dipstick?" :p

The wire harness for the alternator on the '08-'10 cars route alongside the pass. side valve cover and is held in place by the dipstick bracket.

There's a nylon mesh sleeve covering the bundle wires in this area, but if it wore through or chafed the insulation, it would ground out against the bracket. The main power supply off the alternator is in that bundle. That large gauge wire is powered full time as it feeds back to the battery.

The later cars '11+ have a re-routed harness that runs along between the top of the valve cover and the intake, still on the pass. side of the engine.
