Chrysler rolls out two slick concept cars
Source: Detroit Free Press...The Challenger and Imperial received plenty of oohs and aahs from the crowd of journalists and industry insiders at Cobo Center.
The Challenger concept is a throwback to the 1970s muscle car built by Dodge. It's a two-door coupe with an aggressive stance, racing stripes down the center and a 6.1-liter, 425- horsepower Hemi engine under the hood.
...The Chrysler Group already has extended the LX platform, the one used for the 300, for the Dodge Charger, a NASCAR-inspired four-door car, and the Magnum, a souped-up wagon.
"Our expectation is that we'll be able to use that further," said Frank Klegon, executive vice president of product development for the Chrysler Group. "You're seeing a couple more concepts that theoretically could be done in a similar manner."
Popularity at an auto show, though, doesn't necessarily translate into sales on dealer lots, LaSorda said. The Challenger might be an easier decision on whether to proceed because it's in a market the company already knows, he said.
