Got the car back yesterday. Paint job was not good - looks like clear coat was barely buffed, many swirls and obvious orange peel on the newly painted bumper cover. I pointed out to the manager, and he said they would fix it, but since I plan to have it buffed and coated, I thought I'd just let professionals who care about the quality of their work finish it.
I've attached photos of the defect. I'm so discouraged from dealing with my local dealer, next closest is 20 miles away, I think I'm going to give up pursuing. I did tell them to order the part, but if Dodge won't pay, I don't think I'll pursue any further. My heart isn't in it anymore. The dealer did try to adjust the molding, and it is slightly better. Right side is normal, left side is defective.

Thanks Rob. Most discouraging is the poor service from my local dealer. They've lied to me (saying the defective part was ordered when it wasn't. Saying they submitted a claim to Dodge when they didn't - I had asked for something in writing on the denial, they told me then they did not submit it. You'd get fired in my business for lying to customers, but they are OK with it. So much for using the dealer for repairs! I'm attaching a photo of the poor paint work on the bumper cover it took a week to do.

AH, I see. I expected it to be off at the seam. Almost looks like it isn't seated. I need to go look at my car today.

I just sold mine because of little stuff like this. So many low end touches for cars that cost what these do
Yeah, feeling the same way now too. I had planned on keeping the car for years as I loved my 2016 so much. Watch what you wish for. My wife wants to trade in her 2015 Charger on a Cadillac CT5, but that car has been great too. I'm thinking we'll trade in the Scat instead in a year or 2. Surprised these cars were better in 2015 and 16 than 2020. Blame the pandemic?

It's actually warped a little outward and down. You can push on it to the "normal" spot, but very stiff plastic that will just push back out again.

Got to blame something! Sorry to hear about your headaches with your ride and dealer.

Unfortunately, external plastic trim is sketchy at best on the Challengers. With age, it gets worse. The blame is Chrysler. The root cause? Money.

I would get that trim on your trunk replaced. Get another dealer, get it replaced. It won't get better with age. It's not acceptable.

Sunlight is not a friend of the trim. FWIW, I've been using 303 Protectant on all outside and under hood plastic on my previous and present Challenger. It offers UV protection, and will keep the trim looking good.

That said, the trim has to be correct to begin with.

Best of luck.

There is literally no adjustment in that part. I suspect that if you get a replacement is will be very similar. Personally I don't see anything that is outside standard production for a Dodge.

Well the part is plastic, by definition, moldable. If it is removeable without damaging it. I'd start there and see if something can't be sorted out easily. Who knows maybe someone Covid mask got stuck on it. And then heat the crap out of it and see if it can be put back in shape. If you planned on buying a new part, no harm in messing with that one.
I would also try another dealership to see what they say, can't hurt.

Shame the dealership wasn't more helpful. I've been there before and it is beyond frustrating. Truly wish the best. I know it took three different dealerships to finally get something covered under warranty and would advise you try the other dealership if you have the energy and I mean energy. They rarely want to help sadly

This isn't normal or common. There has been a handful of threads on this part being "distorted" on '15+ cars. No fixing this warped trim piece.

All replaced under warranty by good dealers

Maybe we could all post a pic of our same molding. I'll take one next time I go downstairs to stare at my car in the garage!

Proudly dirty and still hot from a nice cruise through local twisties.

Here's a couple pics. 5 1/2 years old, just shy of 30k miles, and no warped trim.

Mine needs a bath too. Built in November 2014. No warped plastic evident.

I adjusted the exposure to lighten the photos up. Had to cast a shadow on the second because a reflection was making the trim appear as warped.
