Yes X 10

The manual cars will always FEEL Faster....neck snapping shifts....BUT they will always be SLOWER than an Auto. It's a choice....what do you want...FUN...or quick 1/4 mile times.

I've had both. As far as seat of the pants feel, I felt the acceleration more with the auto. I believe it's because you're pushing back in the seat slightly when working the clutch and that negates some of the feel. The auto guys will say it's because that auto is faster but that 1/10th of a second is not something noticeable. I still prefer the manual for all the other benefits it has chiefly it's not boring like the auto.

An M6 392 is impressively torquey and fast running 2nd & 3rd gear. In second gear, the RPM equals speed, like 3500 RPM is 35MPH. So, 2500-6300 RPM run is awesome, and will drain some blood out of your head. 3rd gear is more fun. 1st gear is where you spin the the tires if you stomp it, so learn your throttle. Also you get rubber on the 1-2 and 2-3 up-shifts.

I love it :D

The manual "feels fast" with the 5.7 engine and will feel even faster with the 6.4. How fast the car actually is depends on your shifting skill. But even with a moderate & deliberate shift, yes, it will feel fast. :D

The car is fast and the 6 speed is very enjoyable, what really matters is are you a stick guy or not. To me the car wouldn't be fun in an automatic but there are many members here who enjoy theirs completely. It's all up to the individual.

Its all perspective imo. To me coming ffrom manual Corvettes when I got into the 392 I thought it didn't really feel fast. The lower gearing gave the impression you were picking up speed but reality it was almost all of 1st and 2nd just to get to 60... It also sits off the road and is much bigger so that too seems to take the "feel" of raw speed off somewhat to me anyway. I mean it is plenty fast...but raw speed feel isn't there imo.

Agree with a few prev posts(see above)

1st gear is too short even for 275 street radials in the 392- I usually shift early just to get to 2nd to stop spinning. 2nd and 3rd are a blast

looking forward to the HC gearing(1st gear especially)

If you want to be involved, as you should be, get the m6

I'm glad I did. Especially if you DD - helps with learning to shift better over time/experience. If it is going to be just a weekend drive then get the auto

To answer your question: YES, and it feels faster than the auto actually

Personally I love when you floor it in 2nd and the active intake switches over to short runners after 4k-ish rpm.

The car was already surging forward but then it's like you hit the little red button in Men In Black and BOOOOOOOOOM!

BwaaaaaaaaaaaBWAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Going from the 3.6l, to the 392, it doesn't matter if you get an auto or manual, it's gonna feel fast, and you'll love it.

Hearing that little tire chirp between 1st and 2nd makes me glad I chose the manual.
when my R/T barked the tires going from 2-3 I was sold on the M6. My wifes charger has same engine with auto and trust me mine feels much much faster.

I've only driven an R/T Classic and 392 SRT with a 6 spd so I can't compare either against and automatic, but I can tell you my 392 was Hella fast as set up, or even stock for that matter. The only auto Challenger I've ever driven was a V6 rental while my SRT was in the shop. Between the drop in HP and the lack of a std shift, it was pure torture!
Now I'm ready for a 2015 and I've heard so many good things about the 8 spd auto transmission, I'm torn between which one to order. I think I'll really need to test drive one before making the decision. I was able to turn the rental back in after a few days, but I'll have to live with this decision for a lot longer and I just can't picture myself NOT shifting manually.
But anyway, back on topic, the 392 with 6 spd is plenty fast if you know how to use it.

I went from a 2012 Challenger 392 M6 to a 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT with the A5 back to a 2012 Challenger 392 M6: the beauty of the M6 is that you can anticipate the downshift before the car does: just downshift and hammer it. The torque of that HEMI will bury you and your passengers in your seats.

The M6 cruises a lot more relaxed on the freeway; and gets you an additional 1-2 MPG in real life driving conditions.

The M6 also sheds the MDS with its annoying drone, which is just a party pooper IMO. For that alone is worth getting the M6!

thanks for all your input fellas; I'm leaning in the m6 direction but the challenge will be learning how to drive stick first, consider it "the break in period"

I've driven a V6 automatic Challenger for a couple days when my car was in the shop.

If that feels fast to you then slamming the gears on a 392 will have you thinking you are going to blast off into space.
