Doom & Gloom - More Possible Delivery Delays

For those of us, myself included, waiting on a car to be built, things don't look good for us.

With the previously announced shipping delays due to the dispute with the shipping company Chrysler uses, we now have this. It wasn't unexpected really. But it is frustrating and will likely add to our wait. :(

Toyota tells U.S. plants 'prepare to shut down' - Mar. 23, 2011

But Toyota's plans signal that this parts issue could be just the beginning of an industry-wide problem.

"All automakers are just now figuring out who supplies every little part." Said Edmunds.com senior analyst Michelle Krebs. "The shortage of any one could shut down an assembly line. Toyota isn't the only one vulnerable; virtually all major automakers have some risks."
Anyone have any insight if this will affect Chrysler's parts availabilty for Challengers. And if so, which parts?

do you have more info on the shipping delays you mentioned? First I heard of it. I have an RT Classic on order since Jan an I cant get any info on why it is taking so long to get built. Thanks
There is another thread on this in the general discussion area. Also it seems liek there is something going on with shipping since my car has slipped for the 5th time. Was suppoesd to ship to toledo on 3/20/2011 then to dealer ETA 3/28/2011...so far not looking good.
My R/T has been sitting in the Winsor yard now a few days. I have seen this schedule slip more times than I can count. You should see my status page. It gets longer and longer and longer.......
GM and Chrysler both use Allied Trucking for the bulk of their shipping. GM has discontinued a relationship with Allied because of a strike at Allied, and is in the process of" seeking" a new trucking firm. In the meantime notices have gone out to dealers to make arrangements for dealers to pick up vehicles at terminals on a very limited basis. I assume the same thing has happened to Chrysler.
Is Your Vehicle Being "Held Hostage"???

More information on the shipping crisis for Chrysler. Seems 700 Chrysler vehicles are being "held hostage" by the shipper. Cars that are completely built and just waiting to be delivered.

The biggest problem the auto companies are having is getting the parts for electronic devices and/or the completed components. The "just in time" logistics systems most everyone uses now is biting them in the ass. Several major electronic suppliers in Japan had semiconductor plants that were shut down by the earthquake/tsunami. And those companies that are still producing are having trouble getting parts out of Japan because of the internal transportation problems there. This disruption in the flow of parts is affecting companies at all tiers of the manufacturing process in numerous countries.

I'm keeping a pretty close eye on this because of a work project I'm involved with. I know GM's already shut down some plants making less popular models to conserve parts for the better selling models. So far I haven't heard of Chrysler shutting down any factories or having any parts problems, but if it comes down to using the parts they have on hand to build a 300, a Charger or a Challenger, do I need to tell you which one would be at the bottom of that food chain due to lower sales?

fly up and grab you car and drive back. first road trip.
Rescuing the hostages....

A rescue attempt is always risky in these hostage situations. I'm sure they'd kill the minivans first and then go after the Challengers.
That is to funny lol ^^^^^^^^^^
Just called Dodge customer service to see if they could shed some light on the subject. Sorry to say, they had no idea what I was talking about. So I read the article to them. She was grateful for informing her of the situatuion but had nothing to offer as far as information. Told her they may have a small riot on their hands in the near future.

I ordered my car 1 month ago today. It has been built but is sitting, waiting to go on a train. Since it's only been 30 days since I place my order, I have no right to complain just yet; however, I feel for those of you that have been waiting beyond what is a reasonable amount of time.

My suggestion is for you to get on the horn to your dealer and let it be know that this is unacceptable and they need to (1) provide the answers to what is actually going on and (2) come up with ways for people in this situation to keep from cancelling their orders. I'm thinking in the way of incentives, MOPAR Bucks or rebates.

I know if my car is still sitting after the time I was told it would take, that's exactly what I'm going to do. There are way too many choices out there. Many times the worst part is not being kept up to date and informed of what is really going on! It may not do any good, but if enough people start complaining and canceling orders the dealer and/or Chrysler will have to do some sort of damage control! The internet is a powerful tool ! Let our voices and concerns be heard loud and clear!!!!

Just found this link. Don't know if it helps much but ... Chrysler Cars (Production Updates)
...or having any parts problems,...
Not sure if it's been corrected, but there were no 430n's to be had recently. That reminds me - anybody that specified a 430n - that may be a bump in your road. Not sure how they'll deal with those.
Chrysler restricts 10 (TEN) Paint Colors Due to Japan Quake!

The article doesn't mention GWE as being restricted. So with the other colours unavailable shouldn't ours be built sooner?:bigthumb:
Good thing mines built then! Now how bout shipping the SOB! I DIGRESS :(
yeah this blows.....mine was built the 21st and was SUPPOSED to be at the dealer today according to insight, but that was almost a week ago....nothing has been updated since the 21st and only information has been getting removed from the order tracking site....i called dodge and they have no recent news either about where my car is or what the hold up is since the 21st....luckily it has been built and painted, redline 3, and is sitting in the yard to ship so obviously its the dumb trucking that holding this up and that blows.....with the nice weather FINALLY showing up, i want my car....hopefully we will get some info on these problems in the near future instead of them refusing to acknowledge that there is a problem which like everyone else has said, is unacceptable for a company of this size and such.....
Looks like it is on truck and shipped today. No? Or am I reading it wrong.
Heh - if the truck is heading to Windsor Pillete Road, Ontario... sure!!! :icon_razz:

KZ status is just another parking lot. I hit KZ March 11th. Guess where my car is? If you said Windsor Pillete Road, you'd be right!

In fact... my car LOVES Windsor Pillete Road!!

...and so on... and so forth... infinity.... UNLESS of course, it reverts back to JS/JB/ then finally D1 here in a couple of days - which wouldn't surprise me. Probably part it out for somebody else's car. Or just ship me a box full of parts.
