NHTSA will require that quiet electric cars make noise, by 2020.

Are you ready for the sound of a HEMI, coming out of a Nissan Leaf?

Doesn't say what kind of sound and suggests that it should be driver selectible.

God help us when the millennials have the ability to make their car play Mumford and Sons or Dave Matthews instead of an engine sound.

The coolest thing about electric cars was that they were silent. So much for that I guess.
I have an uncle with one of the very few all-electric Toyota Rav 4s. More of a novelty due to the limited range. He drags a 220v cable with him and plugs it into your dryer outlet to charge when he visits.

Because it's silent, he hooked up speakers on the roof that play "The Electric Slide" when he's driving it.
