I've had my Passport 8500 radar/laser detector for over 8 years. It's been in many of my cars and has served me well. I know there is upgraded technology now which includes the X50 for POP radar. Is the low frequency POP radar worth selling my original 8500 and getting it with the X50 technology? My other thought was to try to sell it and get a V1. I know that those are the best overall, because of the signal markers on the front of the unit.

Thanks in advanced

I was really going to go with the Escort 9500ci, but then realized I'd need to buy two systems, one for the Challenger, and another for the Ram SRT10, so I just ordered a 9500xi this morning, I'll put a hardwire in each vehicle. That way I can swap from one to the other...

So in other words my 8500 NON X50 is obsolete?

If you're going to depend solely on a radar detector, and not some common sense, good luck. I have an Escort that's probably almost 30 years old. It seems to still pick up most radar signals, and I heed any warning. I'm also careful about where and when I push the limit.

Everything here in Vancouver BC that the cops use is Laser - no radar has been used here in quite a while. (maybe the odd, older police vehicle- and they are were not allowed to leave them on - just bursts so they would not have prob with cancer)
