Hey everyone, second time posting on here after getting awesome results and help the first time.

Here's the story.. have had the car (2010 R/T Classic) for a year and a half now, zero issues motor wise. Yesterday I was leaving the store and I push to start and it cranks and turns and sputters and dies.. not the battery, starter sounds good, alternator is fine, fuel gushing out of the line to the rails which should indicate the fuel pump is fine, no bad fuses, relays.. no idea. Call my dad (former mechanic) and he checks all the same things, can't figure it out. He plays with the shifter a bit and it starts right up, he says maybe a neutral safety switch.. ok cool I'll look into it so I drive the car home about 2 miles away, turn it off and start it right back up but now my ESP BAS and Traction lights are on.. coincidence? I hope not.. So later on last night I check to see if it'll start again for work today, success! Wrong, she died 20 feet away after giving zero throttle response sputtering away.

Anyone have any insight on what might be happening here? I'm reading the esp bas might indicate anything from a loose axle but to sensor to steering column issues..

You guys are my only hope right now

Edit: any correlation with it allowing me to change gears while the clutch is not depressed?

You should pull codes and see what the modules see.
Is the lightning bolt looking thing on when running?
It does seem odd that this would be a coincidence!

Looks like I'll need a tow today before I can pull codes.
I saw the lightning bolt thing briefly but can't say it stays on when running, it won't fully turn over

OK. If I can help let me know. I work in longwood.

I had a Hemi that did this and it turned out to be an oil pressure sensor.
Hope all goes well!

Hi coreyhoel,

Sorry to hear about your concerns with your vehicle! If you end up deciding to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know.

So it turns out the reason it wouldn't start really was the fuel pump, guess it was on it's way out and had some still in the lines to dump out when we checked the first time.

The ESP BAS and Traction lights have turned off, highly likely turned on because we unplugged the battery in an attempt to reset any electronics. I did try the wheel turn reset to no avail previously though.

Oddly yesterday when they were replacing the fuel pump the first one they got from autozone did not work, mentioned something about the secondary pump but can't imagine they'd confuse the two when ordering the pump. Waiting to find out more on that but has anyone else had issues when or IF you've ever replaced your pump(s)?

Really appreciate the help and responses!

Haven't done one in my Challegers, but my father in law needed one a couple years ago on his low mile 99 mustang gt. The addition of all the ethanol in gas nowadays can apparently have negative effects on the rubber in fuel pumps and lead to premature failures. The shop replaced his with a Ford oem one which died within maybe a month. They replaced it with an auto zone generic and it's been fine for a couple years now. I did one I guess a year ago in an older jeep wrangler. When I removed it the rubber was extremely mushy and breaking down.
