Hello everyone,

I have been having a problem with my 2014 SXT Challenger. It seems sometimes when I punch the gas and the gears are about to switch, it isnt a smooth transition. Half the time its a smooth gear switch, the other half it feels like it tries switching, goes back down for a second, and then switches. When it happens I can feel my car struggle...

Is this the sign of a bad transmission? I do not have warranty anymore, so might consider adding extended warranty if so. Maybe a transmission flush will do the trick?

(I ONLY drive in automatic, although I do have capabilites to go into manual)

Thanks,
Brickhouse

Have you ever pulled fuse #2 in the trunk for a minute or two, and then replacing it before driving, to see if it makes a difference?

My car has done the same thing for quite some time...I hope it's not the transmission going lol. I chock it up to the computer freaking out at that awkward moment between gears. These cars were never very smooth or seemless even from the factory.

Yeah, my old 2012 and my 2015 both have a habit of shifting right after I give it more gas, bogging down, and not accelerating at all. It almost makes me feel like somehow I did something wrong, but other cars I have don't do that. I know on the 2015, part of it is FCA pushing so hard for mileage ratings, they always want it in a higher gear than really makes sense.

At least on the 2012, I could pull fuse #2, and get it to act better for a while.

So your saying if I pull the fuse, wait a few minutes, replace and then go on my way, it should eliminate this issue? I am TERRIFIED of it being my transmission, as I have only owned the car a year, and dont have warranty or $3,000 to blow!

I'm saying it's worth trying. It used to make a noticeable difference in how my 2012 acted.

With the car off, pop the trunk, and access the fuses. Identify, and pull fuse #2. Wait a minute or so, and replace the fuse. Put everything back as it was, and go for a drive.

I assume that you've cjecked your transmission fluid level and quality? Check the level, and look at the color. It should be a bright red. If it's dark, or smells horrid, you may need to look more closely at the transmission.

and as far as it downshifting just after you give it gas, that's not really unusual. In a lot of cases, it should do that, in oder to get the rpm up in a lower gear, so you can actually accelerate. If it is rough, or jerky when it does it, then that may be unusual. These are big, heavy cars, and I haven't driven a V6 version to see how they act.

Hey Andrea,

Would you be able to look further into my claim? I have taken mine into the dealer and FCA refused to replace internals/whole trans due to the fact that it is not throwing any codes. My car downshifts at random intervals, also will slam into gears after a hard acceleration followed by coasting.

I have an extensive automotive background and drive multiple different brands/models and there is definitely a noticeable issue with these transmissions. What do I need to do to have yall take me and other people that are having this issue seriously.

Thanks,

Charles

Charles,

I am going to try checking my transmission fluid first. Although, I do not believe there is a dipstick and the cap says "check with dealer" so I am honestly frustrated...(dont want to pay a dodge dealership labor to check some fluid). Try this before further investigating!

I feel like this should've been something recommended( or possibly investigated) to me when I was at the dealer.

The customer service aspect of ownership on FCA vehicles is a joke.

How many miles are on your car?

I imagine if you pull the fuse more than likely it will reset the trans for awhile but the problem will arise again (similar to disconnecting battery?)
