Was wondering what was the mileage on your first oil change. I have the first 4 for free. I have heard horror stories about the dealership experience. After the 4 oil changes are up I was thinking of just changing the oil myself...any opinions on this

I changed our SRTs at 1000 miles but the dealer and Chrysler stated 6000, 6 months or when the indicator comes on, which ever is first. I change the oil after the first time at the recommended 6000 or 6 months. This is using synthetic oil. If I was tracking the vehicle or using conventional oil I would change more often or when the oil indicator came on.

I have to empty the catch can on the Jeep every 2500 and the Challenger every oil change.

i always change my oil with a new car at 1,000 then 3,000 then 3000 to 5000 from there on

go ahead and take it to the dealer, but check it before you leave...mine put an extra 1/2 quart in....dont trust them...

Dodge treats $50,000 SRT's like $15,000 cars.........it goes all the way from the factory to the shipper to the dealer....expect that they dont really care about your car....to them its a $15,000 piece of metal....not a $50,000 collector/performance car

I'd say do it yourself after your first 4 but then it's more convenient to have it changed for you.

As for the dealer, I have only taken it in for warranty work: hid ballast crapped out and wireless control module.

1000 mi for the initial to get all of the engine particulate flushed out and then I go by my oil change indicator which usually kicks off every 2500-3500 mi.

Just changed mine today on my SE, with the Pentastar V6 3.6L. Had 1190 miles on it, changed to 5w-30 Mobil 1 full synthetic. I plan on doing it every 5000 miles.

Interesting to do the filter change. The filter cartridge is on the top of the motor, right up front, for those of you who don't know. It was a lot less messy than I thought, all the oil had drained out of the filter.

I spread open a few of the folds on the outside of the old filter. Every fold had a bunch of very bright, shiney, metal particles caught there. If everyone saw this they would all agree that 1k first oil change is the way to go!

Be careful, the Mopar filter cartridge box also contains a new rubber O-ring to install on the canister. I didn't know until it fell out of the box right in front of me. I figured if they put it in there, they wanted you to use it....

Worst fears confirmed dealership sucks. Was too lazy to check the car while I was there. In a hurry to get home. At night take the car to the gas station to check the oil. Oil is fine but the dimwit that changed the oil spilled a bunch of it on top where the cap is. Then of course I got under the car and the bottom cover is covered with oil, I cant freaking believe this. I have never seen this on my toyota. They can keep the free oil changes will do it myself. To top it off the sensor thats connected to the air filter for some reason now looks to me like someone tried to turn it and it sort of looks cracked. I cant believe I have not noticed that before. Its like a perfect circle or almost looks cut. Super disappointed

Sorry to keep ranting but I know its not a 100,000 dollar mercedes but then again its almost there top of the line car. You figured they would take better care of them while there. What gets me is that I walked around the whole car to make sure they didnt scratch it....

I totally agree with you. You have every right to expect good quality service no matter what kind of car you have.
