being as this is our first new 2010 Dodge Challenger, i have a few questions about the car, the mfg process and the break-in process..

#1..looked at a bunch of 6 speed R/T's, why do those all have anti-spin diffs and the automatics don't?

#2..do the 5.7 hemi's have rev limters?

#3..should i follow the owners manual for break-in? i'll have 120 miles of turnpike ahead of me on the way home and really want to let 'er rip!! ...a few times anyway!

#4.. i watched a natgeo vid here earlier today..do they really dyno-test EVERY motor before shipping? Or is it just a random sample?

#5.. on the same vid they showed a worker test driving new Challengers over an inside bump track checking for squeaks? Really, EVERY car?

#6..Any mods for the auto tranny? i love a good second-gear bang-chirp from an automatic!.......

thanks for any answers!

#1..looked at a bunch of 6 speed R/T's, why do those all have anti-spin diffs and the automatics don't? (I believe the posi is part of the track pak, which is what you get when you get the 6 speed, autos make posi a separate option)

#2..do the 5.7 hemi's have rev limters? (yes, mine cuts in at 5800 indicated on the tach)

#3..should i follow the owners manual for break-in? i'll have 120 miles of turnpike ahead of me on the way home and really want to let 'er rip!! ...a few times anyway! ( I broke mine in gently, didnt' get on it until over 500 miles, then only gently. Didn't really get into it until 1000 miles. Don't know if that's a good thing or bad, but it's what I did.)

#4.. i watched a natgeo vid here earlier today..do they really dyno-test EVERY motor before shipping? Or is it just a random sample? ( I would be no, they don't )

#5.. on the same vid they showed a worker test driving new Challengers over an inside bump track checking for squeaks? Really, EVERY car? (No, doubt it, too much money)

#6..Any mods for the auto tranny? i love a good second-gear bang-chirp from an automatic!.......(don't know, I have a 6 !!!)

thanks for any answers!
Hope this helps.

I have a couple of things, the 5.7 does have a rev limiter and a CAI with a tune wakes it up alot and even sounds better when you get on it. I'm guessing the manuals have limited slip rear ends because they are geared at 3.92 and the auto is only a 3.06 gear. The manual only calls for 500 miles break in and only 60 miles below 55 MPH. That won't kill ya. By the way welcome if I hadn't told you that before.

There's no way they dyno test every engine, not with the throughput from that plant.

1000 engines a day? That's basically an engine a minute for 16 hours.

They might do a quick drive test of the Challengers off the line, they certainly have to move them to the other facility, but I would doubt there's any extensive testing going on.

1. I believe it's in the track pack only.
2. Yes
3. Vary your speed, RPM and load (accell and decell), you need to seat the rings correctly or you're going to burn oil. Don't drive it like you stole it but drive it like grandma either.
4. I don't think so, this is not a hand built Ferrari (although sometimes I think mine is). :browsmiley:
5. Unlikely, you would see more mileage on the speedo. I could be wrong.
6. Predator tuner, you can change the shift points and firmness.

my FF has the "super trak pak" option, but no listed anti-spin diff on the sticker....i had an open diff big block 68 charger for years.....never was any fun...hoping this R/T will be different! By the way, what is with the 306 rear gear? I'm hoping 1-2 gear in the auto will overcome this "salt flats" type of rear gearing!

The trany is geared to help that out in fact most people say the auto will outrun the 6 speed in the 1/4 mile.
1st Gear-3.59:1
2nd Gear-2.19:1
3rd Gear-1.41:1
4th Gear-1.00:1
5th Gear-0.83:1
Reverse-3.16:1

i hope the auto pulls like the 6 speed...i never had the chance to drive any of the hemi auto's, just tested a few of the sixes.....i decided to go with the auto because of simplicity of it.....i only have 2 arms, one for steering and one for beating the kids in the back seat...juuust kidding, my kids are all bigger than me! Really tho', kinda thought the auto was rare!

No way I could own one of these with an auto faster or not, the stick is just way too much fun to drive. If I wanted an auto I would have bought a G8. But that's just me.

You should get a tuner to help the auto out. they say the CAI doesn't help but all I did was add a CAI and 93 CAI tune and my auto feels and soulds alot better and the mopar CAI really helps the looks under the hood.
