My alternator recall notice came today but it says Chrysler doesn't have the parts to fix it and will send another recall notice when they do have the part(s). Wonder how long this will take - anyone know? Seems to me they will have to put a higher powered alternator in but the recall does not specify how the repair will be done.

There's no telling how long until the recall becomes reality. Let's hope only a few weeks.

They will replace your alternator with another one that has better diodes(let's hope).

I got my recall letter in the mail today for my 2013 Dodge Challenger. It says vehicle alternator can fail, resulting in shutdown while driving, and/or an underhood electrical fire. It says parts are currently unavailable, and I will be contacted when they are. Will Chrysler provide me with a rental to drive to like they did with the 2013 positive battery terminal recall? I'm not going to drive my Challenger if it is unsafe. They should provide me a vehicle to drive.

Vehicles today are so computerized, they could shut down for no apparent reason any time at all already. Based on what Ford did with recalls on the 1.6 EcoBoost, if the problem was imminent, I suspect they would've said park the car and provided a rental.

me too

My alternator recall arrived in the mail yesterday. Strange enough, was taking her in today for the warrantee check up. The dealer says they have no idea when the replacement part will arrive....basically, the letter we received knew more about the situation then the dealer... Still, the vehicle is running fine....

Got mine a few days ago with the same vague statement. They need to be a little more detailed as to when and how the problem will be resolved. The dealer had less info about it than I did and have no projection about when parts will be available. It was basically a teaser letter. My dash lights and headlights flicker randomly and the headlights dim/brighten when I turn the steering wheel when parking. I wonder how long it will last before it finally craps out.

What symptoms are you guys experiencing?

I wonder if this has anything to do with the headlights dimming when applying the brakes? Mine is a 2010. I've not heard of this recall or gotten anything on it.
The P60 Alternator safety recall is limited to vehicles equipped with electric hydraulic steering and 3.6-liter V-6 engines. Affected are model-year 2011-2014 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger sedans, Dodge Challenger coupes, Dodge Durango SUVs and model-year 2012-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs.

To tell you the truth, I had not noticed any issues at all, but this week when I took her in for her warrantee check-up, I was told the battery was low and that was probably due to the Alternator issue. I hope they get on this sooner rather than later. The issues include Engine Fires! Dude, if my Challenger blows up due to this not being switched out, I will go nuts!

I got the recall notice the other day... And I believe what was written in the recall had actually happened to me. Thank God I was at a red light...

As I was coming to a stop... My engine started rumbling very strangely... Then all of the sudden my car stalled out. I was so scared. I tried to turn it back on and it wouldn't start. Then, I turned off the car completely. Let it sit for about 30 seconds and turned tried again and it turned back on. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Imagine if that happened while I was driving...

I think the headlight flickering happens to every newer Challenger. The brake lights pull power from the electrical system and takes it from what the headlights are getting. The alternator will compensate, but it's not fast enough at compensating to eliminate the flicker. When the engine is running faster than idle, it is already putting out enough current so you don't see the flicker.

This could be fixed by an alternator with a higher idle output - at least that makes sense to me.

Shop around. Not all dealers are the same.

I've been calling and waiting for over 6 months to get this recall fixed. I call Huntington, NY Chrysler Dodge every month for 6 months. The dealership I purchased my vehicle from, Huntington, NY Dodge Chrysler just keeps telling me they are waiting for parts to be shipped from Chrysler and blames it on Chrysler Corporation. So they are basically telling me they have no alternators in stock and have no way of getting a common alternator anywhere. The recall states "vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash." and Huntington, NY Dodge Chrysler keeps me waiting for over 6 months? UNACCEPTABLE!

***UPDATE***

I just got in touch with Chrysler Corporation direct through their 800 number and they put me in touch with Port Jefferson, NY Dodge Chrysler who said they have it in stock and scheduled me for an appointment next week. The dealer I've been going to for over 3 years couldn't get it done, but a dealer I've never used before is taking care of me. Service is what keeps customers happy and coming back as repeat customers. Huntington, NY Chrysler Dodge dropped the ball on this one.

I still don't have mine. No problems (yet), but selling dealer and one other local that I called don't have the parts. I'm on a list of 20 or so waiting a few weeks ago, and I guess I need to call again. My very limited experience with Dodge service is overall not good, and I suspect they're not going to go out of their way to give me a ring.
