Driving home from work tonight and out on the 5 north here in Los Angeles is a tire tread from a truck. It was dark and wham I hit it. It went beneath my car and came out the back. When I got home I could immediately smell gas. Sure enough it put a tiny hole in my gas tank. It slightly bent a heat shield as well but I can bend that back. You could tell where it hit by the marks beneath the car. No body or front spoiler damage and my exhaust is fine as well. I will have to get a new tank. Anyone here know what that might cost me? I looked online and saw a new tank around $500! I am contacting some salvage yards. It just suckss

Call your insurance company, your comprehensive part should fix it with no deductible just like glass breakage. Give it a try.

If the ins not cover it your going to have to take the tank out anyway so it may be cheaper to have them put in a drain plug or just weld it closed.
