Went to check my u-joints and found that weird rubber assembly.

How do you check it? I'm getting hellacious rumbling in gear with brakes. No rumbling in neutral and brakes.

Trying to eliminate all factors factors before dropping the trans and looking at clutch.

As an aside, just hit 30k today

I think that is a sort of shock absorber/damper for the driveline and rear end. Similar in purpose to the clutch delay valve (CDV). Not sure how to check it other than visually. Would be unusual for it to fail at 30,000 miles under normal circumstances. Not much discussion in the challenger community on these components. However the camaro and mustang guys often replace them with solid units to improve performance though.

inspect for:

cracks, signs of shredding or if there's any fibers that are protruding from the flex disc.

Inspect around where the bolt holes are - that's about it.

The colored pink bolts on the diff are single use only.
