Will be installing my new coil covers tomorrow. Gave the Scat a good bath today so I won't scratch the fenders when I drape them in towels. Never done this before. What holds the covers on and how do you detach them. Also, since it's a Shaker, I am assuming that all of the Shaker scoop and associated mounting hardware will need to be removed to get to the driver's side? Input welcome!

Good Lord no. They don't tell you (but they include pictures and instructions). But on a Shaker you have to make a huge notch in the Shaker base bracket to clear the new driver's side cover. Let's just say it ain't easy as it is quality, thick steel and no way to get to it. Worked all day on it and it will take all day tomorrow to finish. But, thread and pics when I finally get done. Got 1/3 of it done today.

DON'T CUT THE BRACKET!

Notch the cover. You CAN'T buy a bracket without getting an entire shaker kit. See posts 9, 11 and 14.

Too late, I got this covered. Why would I need another bracket if I notch this one correctly? I'm being careful. It is so overly engineered. I'd rather do that and dress it up and paint it to look factory than hack up my $400 coil covers.

The actual factory cover is somewhere around 70 bucks today. I paid $48.61 for mine in 2020. Obviously paying someone else to trim one and custom paint it for you adds to the expense. The shaker bracket supports the entire shaker assembly on a running engine. My thought is why potentially compromise an important structural component that can't be replaced without buying an entire expensive kit when you can remove some area from non-structural piece of plastic?

My reasoning. Your perspective is equally valuable.

Oh, I get it. But, like I said, I am leaving more than enough metal (it's thick and strong!) and only modifying one corner of a 4 point structure to support the Shaker. And, as I said, when I am done cleaning up the cuts and painting the edges, it will look factory. And when I take off the Shaker off as I do regularly, the coil cover will be fully intact which will make me smile. Just different ways to skin a cat. Depending on how you like your skinned cat's to look. Thanks so much for your input. The blue tape helped me get the passenger's side one in without so much as a nick! (y)

It's going to be two corners unless they notched the rear upper corner of the cover. You may need to notch the rear leg of the shaker bracket accordingly. Refer to post #14 to see the notch I cut out of the rear upper corner of the cover instead of cutting the bracket.

Kind of confused why they would cut the hole for the intake and then have you butcher your bracket rather then them trimming that area of the cover also....
It's because all they do is buy a coil cover for a non Shaker car and paint it and cut a hole for the inlet tube. But I agree, if you're going to cut it for the tube, why not the bracket? Oh well, they should at least let you know before it shows up. But, like I said, I got this and it's going to be functional and look great when I'm done! ;)
It's okay, eventually he will get another Shaker Kit so he can paint his Shaker Red😉. He'll have a new bracket then also👍
Not against it! ;)

I test fitted them today and looked like they are clear in the back. But, thanks for the heads up. Will watch it closely on the final fitting! (y)

Agreed. If they spent the time to determine the relief necessary to clear the tube then they would have also faced clearing the bracket... UNLESS they mocked it up on a 5.7. The shaker and tube fitment on those is not even close to the geography of a 392. If memory serves the tube relief cut for a 5.7 is a lot smaller than what a 392 needs.

This is the almost final cut on mine. You can see white chalk lines to the right of the oil cap indicating additional trimming to clear the intake hose bellows.

I picture someone with a sleepless night tonight waiting to find out tomorrow if it will fit after all the cutting😳

I just compared those two pictures, big difference??? Reminds me of my early years installing easy bolt on parts that were anything but... Good luck my friend👍

I will also disclose that I was generous in cutting the relief for the hose as I did not want ANY rubbing contact that could potentially damage the hose. This was because the hose is not serviced alone. One of the components you have to buy the entire kit to get.

Remember the Hurst Super Boot? We used to say "The Hurst Super Boot...for big mistakes." 🤣

IE, a WAY too big hole in the tunnel.

i just notched the back of my cover, not like you can really see it anyway, at least even though i cut it i cant really tell when it is on, no way im cutting the steel bracket when the plastic hacks off in 30 seconds with a dremel easy peasy

OK, finally got done and everything fits fine. Shaker bracket is still strong enough to stand on. Did not have to trim anything in the back as it cleared easily. Not the best pics as light angle was not optimum.
