Interesting time slip

Yea yea, not in the Challenger.. but worth a look:
Wed night $500 Gamblers race at Englishtown..
Lots of heavy hitters in this weekly event...

Lost in Semi Finals to Al Vanis NHRA National Champ.. Check out the slip.. We BOTH cut IDENTICAL lights, BOTH ran under (broke out) me by .006, Al by .004 so he wins! Funny thing is before the run I was thinking about dialing 11.45 (would have ran spot on & won) but since he was leaving first (slower car), I didn't want to give him any more of a starting line advantage since my last run was 11.47, so I dialed .01 down to 11.46.. Oh well, got some good seat time and some $$ to boot!

Looks like he knows his car very well. Evident he coasted through the traps.

Very close, if he's a national champ he sure was late on the tree. When I was running divisional races is you weren't in the teens you were on the trailer.

No he didn't.. I took the stripe by .002 & I was in it all the way, he was not off it at all. He traps slow in a 1965 Malibu wagon...

Yea, both kinda crummy lights.. Most guys go red on him, but I made up my mind NOT to press the tree, & cut a "safe" light & see what happens... I think he knew who I was as well, and also didn't want to press the tree....

I know exactly what you mean. During my time runs I see where I am at for the day, and adjust launch rpm based on that. If I run into a guy like him, I try to push it up to hang a double 0 on him, which often leads to red. But that's what it takes at times to beat the big hitters.

He even PAYS if he's in your car as a hired gun, weather he loses, cuts a light worse than .029 or goes red...
$100 for each..

'HIRE ME -- IF I SCREW UP, I PAY YOU,' RACER OFFERS

"If I lose a round of eliminations due to a reaction time worse/higher than .029 or red (minus .001 or worse), I will pay a penalty of $100 for that round loss." They wouldn’t make that statement, because nobody is consistently that good and unforeseeable mechanical and physical circumstances are always present. Al Vanis is looking for a ride in a consistent and well-maintained "foot brake" race car. If I determine that the race car offered is as described, I will pay the owner of it $100 for any round in eliminations that I lose by fouling or from a reaction time of .030 or worse/higher. Judging the "stripe" is an educated guess, and nobody is better at it than a racer who has been doing just that for 45 years. Make me pay!! Call Al Vanis - 732-536-8210."

That's great!! Pretty much falls in line with what I seen when I ran all the time. In the fast classes .020's isn't considered great, but average.

Sounds like a stand up racer.

IMO footbrake is the toughest class. Agree with the others - .056 is a decent light, but not stellar. Another two hundy on the tree and you had the win by a whole fender.

National champ goes almost .06 on the tree? Sound asleep....:zzz:

In the footbrake class, 00x RTs are rare (but they do occur). If you can consistently go .02-.03 on the tree in the footbrake class and run your dial (which you obviously can) you'll usually go rounds unless you come up against a terminator.

In the late rounds if I know I'm up against a veteran or season points contender, I'll try to chop down the tree and go .01 or high .00x. When you're surprised it didn't go red - it's a good light. I'd rather go down swinging than be caught napping.

He was clearly on his way to a major breakout based on his trap speed - he sandbagged on the dial and stood on it in order to line-up bumpers at the stripe. That technique only works if he cuts a better light - if you cut a better light and he lines-up bumpers at the big end - he automatically loses on a breakout.

Tough loss on a double break out - .0024 MOV doesn't get much closer than that. Great race and even better learning experience.

Hear ya..
Today in Modern Muscle I lost when my opponent toasted me with a scalding .009 R/T in the 1st round.. ugh....

However I bounced back & won the Corvette Challenge & then took Tim (HEMI MAN) (red R/T), in a run off for a spot on the E-town team for the Division I Finals... So today was pretty good!!

Damn good light for footbrake class....he earned that win.

Way to come back - the mentally toughest bracket racers can shrug off a loss and still be competitive.
